Michael James MacGillivary, born on August 1, 1970, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024. Beloved son of Rod and Norma MacGillivary, and cherished brother to Heather Talach and her husband Mark. Michael’s presence will be deeply missed by his nieces Olivia and Natalie Talach, whom he adored.

Michael had a unique ability to make everyone feel at ease, effortlessly finding common ground with people from all walks of life—from his uncles, aunts, and cousins to lifelong friends and even those he had just met. His warmth and openness forged deep connections, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving aunt Ann MacDonald and uncle John MacGillivary in Nova Scotia, as well as his aunt Jean Hall in Virginia. Michael leaves behind a legacy of warmth and laughter treasured by many cousins spread across Hamilton, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and the United States. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Sarah and Daniel MacGillivary from Nova Scotia, and Maisie and James Ross from Scotland, whose legacy he cherished.

Michael’s life was enriched by simple pleasures, such as watching his favourite comedy shows and exploring new recipes in the kitchen. His kindness, infectious sense of humour, and unmistakable belly laugh brought joy to countless friends and family throughout the years.

Michael graduated from Sir Allan MacNab High School and went on to complete his studies in Business Administration at Mohawk College, earning his diploma. He then began his career with London Life in Hamilton, and his drive and dedication led him to Toronto, where he excelled as a compliance manager at several financial institutions.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nursing and medical staff of Units C4 and ICU at Sunnybrook Hospital, whose exceptional care and support were a great comfort.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, October 26th, from 2-4 PM at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, in Dundas. Michael would have loved for all who knew him to continue embracing acceptance, laughter, and kindness, especially toward those who need it most. He will be remembered fondly by all, and his legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Michael’s memory to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
