With deepest sadness we announce the passing of Jan Lewis on September 6th, at the age of 72 in Hamilton, ON. She was an amazing wife to the late Paul Lewis for 41 years; the most kind and loving mother to Adi and Sam, and their partners Jeff Hunt and Christina Carvalho; adoring Grandma to Hudson, Emerson, Harper, Billie, and River. Loyal sister of Bob (Jane), Heather (Bill), Jim (Catherine), Barb (John) and Jill (Dean). Sister-in-law to Peter and Ellen Lewis and Aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews. Hilarious, honest and warm, Jan’s arrival in any room made it brighter and more welcoming than it was before. She loved road trips to Sauble Beach and card games on the covered porch. Jan always had perfectly themed gifts and cookies for all of her grandkids for every special occasion. Her hand painted cards made everyone who received one feel seen and loved. If you were lucky enough to know Jan well, her quick wit, knowing smile, and comforting hugs will be missed forever. We would like to thank the oncology team at Grand River Hospital (especially Dr. Lumsden) and the oncology team at Juravinski Hospital for aiding Jan through her journey living with cancer. Special thanks to the palliative care team at St. Peter’s Hospital for their incredible care of Jan and her family during her final days. Friends will be received at Turner Family Funeral Home, in Dundas Ontario, on Wednesday September 18th. Visitation at 10am followed by a Memorial Service at noon and a reception to follow. Remembrances to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers-to-Grandmothers Campaign, would be appreciated by Jan’s family.
Jan was my cousin by marriage, my soul sister by heart. The bravest, kindest most beautiful girl who loved her family with the tenacity of a lioness. You will live forever in our hearts and memories. We are sorry you are no longer with us but forever grateful for your life.
I will
Always remember Jan and her smile and when she would come into the post office to get George the cat . RIP Jan it was a pleasure to get to know you.
A kind and loving lady, generous and thoughtful. Her long brave battle giving way to rest.
May her presence be near you, your memories comfort you and her legacy endear others to be like her. With heartfelt sympathy to you all for the loss of dear Jan.
To my darling cousin Jan, kind, caring person, loved by Harold, Mary and families in Wales.
Thank you for all the wonderful times we spent together and the special memories you helped us create and we will always treasure in our hearts, we never forget you RIP darling cousin with all our other angels xx
To Sam and Adi.. I will forever carry Paul and Jan’s Spirit around with me.. Your Parents were so kind and welcoming. Even for a only a week while painting your Family Home in Bronte, they treated me like one of their own (or at least that’s how I felt).. I still carry a special ladder around with me and it hangs in Bronte waiting for unique jobs. I’ve always been so proud of the Bronte Heritage Blue Paint that remains on my Ladder to this day. I also still tell stories about maneuvering around the Hydro out front of the old house..
I’m so so sorry.. Rest well Jan.. I can still see your smile and feel your presence driving through Bronte weekly. Say hello to Paul for me. Love you guys 💙💙 Rie
Our deepest condolences to Adi, Sam and the entire extended family for the loss of someone that was so important in their lives.. Paul and Jan were close friends that we knew and grew up with in Oakville sharing many stories and laughter.. late night escapades and May 24 weekends at Sauble beach were always a memory in the making ..as we all got older and raised our families we tried to become responsible adults which was difficult especially if Paul was in a mischievous mood ..you knew in their company and with the gang present… laughter …was going to be the main course of the day .. Jan was a sweetheart of a person that had a smile that would warm any heart and a quick wit that suddenly would bring you to attention.. I’m sure Paul would attest to that.. lol .. Deb and I will miss you Jan but will never forget.. rest in peace .. and tell Paul to set up the cards for when we get there!!
Our condolences Jill on the passing of your sister our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family
Love Susan and Family
Condolences, Sam, to you and your family on the passing of your mom. Thinking of you all.
I am a member of the Afri-nanas of Cambridge. Jan was a great asset of our group and always eager to help out. One spring Jan wanted some help thinning out her perennial beds and another member of our group and myself took lots of beautiful plants home. I still have one of her sweet pea plants, numerous iris bulbs and some perennial sunflowers from her garden, both at home and at our cottage, so her memory lives on in my gardens. Sending deep sympathy your way, and many thanks for asking for donations to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.
So saddened to hear that Jan passed away. A lovely friend to so many including myself from days at Gladys Speers Public school in the Stanfield Road neighbourhood. Went with Jan and her family a few times to cottage country and enjoyed visits to her home with sleepovers. Enjoyed a friendship with Jan and Paul for many years with my husband Bruce (Moose). We are now missing you both. xoxo
