It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Diane Cheeseman. She passed away on August 2nd, 2024, surrounded by the love and comfort of all of her children.
Diane will be forever in the hearts of her children, Debbie, Barbara (Gerhard), Paul (Kim), Lisa (Luke), and Christa (Michael). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Brad, Alexxa, Jeff, Lauren, Kirstin, Natasha, Miranda, Jaimie, Connor, Christopher, Makayla, Nicholas and their respective families. She will be missed dearly by her faithful, lifelong friend Ruth McAlpine and her husband David.
Diane was predeceased by her husband Paul (October 1996) and by Hugh, her partner of 22 years (June 2024).
Diane enjoyed and excelled at her job on the Information Desk at McMaster Hospital for many years before retiring. She got to know and care for many patients and their families and was often the first and the last smiling, friendly face they saw coming and going.
Our Mom loved her family dearly, always there to support and help in any way she could, and was so loved in return. She loved her garden, watching the Blue Jays, and the family cottage, for which we are forever grateful for the many years of great memories made there together. In her senior years she had a love for travel, enjoying many cruises, trips to Florida, the U.K., and to Eastern Canada, with Hugh and sometimes with her family.
Visitation to be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, Wednesday, August 7th from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. followed by a private family funeral.
If desired, memorial donations to Diabetes Canada or The Kidney Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
We will miss her everyday, forever and always.
My deepest sympathies to all the family.
Hello to Diane’s family. That friendly face I saw for so many days and years upon entering the hospital. Sending my condolences on the recent passing of your mom. I worked at McMaster University Health Sciences and got to know your mom in her role at the front desk. I was one of your mom’s contacts for Faculty appointed to the University in Health Sciences. She was aware of every single full and part-time faculty appointed to the university and where and how to find them, along with the thousands of patients who were admitted. Diane was the “friendly face” that greeted thousands of daily visitors and always spoke to them as if they were her main mission. She no doubt took the stress level of visiting a scary hospital down a notch to one where folks were greeted with a friendly kind face. A job well done!!! It was a pleasure to know Diane and chat with her. I send my thoughts and prayers to all family members. Cindy McClung
We send our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Diane. She was a great neighbour with a positive outlook mixed with a wonderful sense o humour. We will miss her a great deal. So sad for her whole family.
My sincere condolences to Diane’s family. My parents, Blondie and Walt were your neighbours for many years. The last time I saw you Mom was at my Dad’s visitation and we laughed about how she and my Dad would tease each other. I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping all of you in my thoughts.
Debbie
Diane was my best friend growing up living down the street from each other until marriage and cities separated us. I met up with her again when my husband was very ill and at McMaster hospital, where she was an immense comfort to me.
Her daughter found me online about a year or so ago and we were communicating online while she was laid up convalescing from hip surgery.
So sorry for the family loss. My sincere condolences.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Diane’s family. I worked with Diane in Medical Records at McMaster and have fond memories of our time back then. Rest in Peace Diane 🙏
