Surrounded by family on June 22, 2023 at 76 years of age Monty passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton. Cherished husband, soul mate and best friend to Terry Lee (nee Gibson) for 51 years. Loving father of Brodie and Christina (Michael). Proud and loving Papa to Tobin, Cooper, Quinn, Reid, Wesley, Noelle, Amanda, and Jason. Dear brother and brother in-law of Beverley and Robert Martin, Judith and William Sexsmith, Laurie Hayman (Ron), Nick and Barbara Gibson, Douglas Risk (Jan), and Rodney Gibson (Jean). Fun-loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. At Monty’s request, a private family service has taken place. In memoriam donations to the Hamilton SPCA would be greatly appreciated. It is with love and sadness we announce the passing of William George Shewfelt on June 26, 2023 in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of 61 years to Yvonne (nee Caswell), loving father to Terri (Neal), Debbie (Patrick), Jennifer (Michael), Kevin (Paula), and Chris (Stephanie). Devoted Grumpa, Grandpa, and Papa to Kazlyn (Sergey), Brendon, Jacey (Darius), Matthew, Joshua, Evan, Rebecca and Luke. Bill will be deeply missed by sister Marilyn (Rollo), brother Delbert (Marilyn), brother-in-law Larry (Julie) and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by siblings Loretta and Dorothy.
Bill was a master journeyman jeweller and diamond setter for over 55 years. Bill’s passions were family, friends, and the Community of Copetown (Hub of the Universe), where he was a charter member of the Copetown Lions Club. Shewy twice served as President and recently received a Life Membership from Lion’s International. Bill was proud to be on the Lions building committee for the Copetown Community Centre which he managed for many years. Bill was an active member of the Copetown United Church. Bill also received a Canada 150 Nation Builder Award in 2017 for his volunteerism.
Shewy’s love of sports included playing fastball in the “Big Four” for Fraser’s Jewellers and coaching numerous youth fastball, baseball and hockey teams. A proud moment for Shewy was serving on the executive of the Brantford Mott’s Clamato’s in 1987 when they won the Allan Cup Senior A Hockey Championship.
Bill and Yvonne were often spotted watching their children and grandchildren in sporting events across Ontario, Canada and the USA.
“The Hub of the Universe” will miss Shewy – its most avid volunteer and unofficial mayor!
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, July 16th, 2023 at the Copetown Community Centre at 2:00pm with a Service at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Copetown Lions Club or Copetown United Church will be appreciated by the family.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Phyllis Entwistle on June 26, 2023.
Predeceased by her husband, Bob, parents, Helen and Andy Anderson and her brother, Butch.
Survived by her children, Douglas (Mary), Steve (Karen), Lynda (Heather), Jennifer (Ed), and her sister Barb (Peter). Also left behind are 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Anthony, Ryan, Ashley, Laura, and the rest of the medical team at the Cardiac Care Unit at Hamilton General Hospital for their compassionate care during mom’s stay.

With sadness in our hearts, we are announcing that our dear Husband, Brother, Dad, Opa, Uncle and friend Ernst (Ernie) Schmidt has passed peacefully at home in his 88th year.
Ernie lived a long and happy life full of simple pleasures: spending time with family and friends, walking around his north Westdale neighbourhood and talking with everyone, plus years of joy and great memories at the cottage on Lake Manitouwabing.
He was as gentle a soul as most of us have ever known, and had a warm and cheerful sense of humour. He was always willing to help where needed.
Ernie was born May 12, 1936 in Kostopol, Poland to Emil Schmidt and Lidia Jachalke. He was raised in Strausberg, Germany. Ernie and his family emigrated to Canada in 1951. They settled in Winnipeg, where Ernie met the love of his life, Mary Schellenberg.
Ernie and Mary ventured east and settled in Hamilton in 1966. They soon welcomed two sons: Erich (Kim) and Robert (Veronic).
Ernie’s professional life started in Germany as a young machinist apprentice. He was a machinist and bus driver in Winnipeg and spent 32 happy years as a turbine operator at Westinghouse in Hamilton.
Ernie is predeceased by parents Emil and Lidia, and sister Alwine. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Mary, brother Wally (Ursula), sons Erich (Kim) and Robert (Veronic) and grandchildren Ailsa, Ash and Matthew.
He loved his friends. Dave Winter and Leo Taron were treasured friends and travel companions from Winnipeg. In Hamilton he and Mary made many good friends. There was also the treasured cottage family.
There were of course extended family, including the whole Wyllie, Brunt and Childs clan in the Hamilton area. They were always welcome in Ernie and Mary’s home, and were welcomed in return. Then there was his Manitoba family, including Betty (Heinz), Harry (Diane) and the late Maggie (Ron), plus a nearly endless array of nieces and nephews and their families. He loved us all, in his kind and unassuming way.
In his final weeks, Ernie received invaluable care from support workers Melissa and Kelly, plus Drs. Marwood and Henry.

Cremation has taken place. Ernie’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 28 at Turner Family Funeral Home: 53 Main St., Dundas, Ont. Visitation is at 1:00pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm and reception afterwards, next door at the Cattel Centre.

With sorrow in our hearts, we announce the death of Marvin Sheppard, who passed away peacefully at Extendicare Hamilton surrounded by the love of his family. A true gentleman, Marvin remained courageous and determined in the face of countless health challenges late in life and his kindness and gentle spirit never wavered.
Cherished husband of the late Joan Breckles (d. 2021). Loving father of Tracey (John Brake) and proud grandfather of Sarah, Kathryn and Mikayla. Son of the late Benjamin (d. 1982) and Ella (d. 1982) Sheppard. Brother of the late Dr. Douglas (d. 1987) (Willemien Sheppard), Frances (Zigmund Parkin), Ruth (John Hughes), Kenneth (Nora Sheppard), Helen (Fulvio Michelazzi), Madlyn (Dr. Leslie Bradley) and Doreen Johnson.
Marvin was a career teacher and school administrator with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. He was beloved and respected by colleagues and students and he provided them with support in difficult times while celebrating their successes.
The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to all of Marvin’s caregivers at Extendicare, the Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital for their exceptional care during Marvin’s lengthy illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Turner Family Funeral Home at 53 Main Street in Dundas, Ontario from 2-4 pm on Tuesday, June 27th. All are welcome to come and share their fond memories of Marvin.
