It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karl Donaberger on July 19, 2022 at the age of 90. He passed peacefully with his immediate family by his side. He is survived by his son Ron (wife Anne), sister Leopoldine, nephew Manfred and niece Andrea, predeceased by his wife Gertrude and his brother Franz. Many thanks to the staff at Cedar Grove in St. Joseph’s Villa for the wonderful care he received especially during these difficult times. A gravesite service will take place on July 27 at 2 PM at Grove Cemetery in Dundas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Guided safely to the loving and embracing arms of his dear Mother, the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved brother, uncle and cousin Ron at home on 19 July 2022 in his 66th year.
Predeceased by his father Robert (2000), mother Lois (2020), sister Colleen (2012) and brother Patrick (1998). Survived by his brother Daniel and brother-in-law Gregory Luciani, nephews Connor (Selena) and Riley and several cousins, particularly our very special cousin Bernice Brown who has always been there for all of us.
Ron was an avid lover of the bagpipes and loved to go to all the Scottish festivals. Ron enjoyed camping, swimming, playing basketball, music and dancing. Ron was happiest being surrounded by family and friends.
Ron will be missed by all who knew and loved him at Community Living Hamilton and by all those who cared for Ron at home over the past many years. The excellent care provided by Bayshore PSW’s and Nurses that kept Ron at home with us is greatly appreciated by the family. Ron loved all the special attention he received from his everyday PSW’s Mick, Geraldine, Barbara, Gerald and Everlita. Ron was truly content while these kind and caring people were around him.
Many thanks to all of the medical doctors and nurses of the St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Team in providing the guidance to assist us in allowing Ron to pass peacefully at home.
Friends will be received by the family on 22 July 2022 from 11a.m. to 12p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, immediately followed by Ron’s service in the chapel. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow next at the Cattel Centre next to the Funeral Home. The family has requested that all of those attending wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to Community Living Hamilton, McMaster Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
On July 11th, 2022 Christel Johanna Hulda Parys (nee Stemmler) passed away surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Rudy Parys, mother of Susan (Travis) and Monique (Robert) and Oma to Chelsea, Logan, Garrett and Georgia. Predeceased by her mother Else and father Karl Stemmler. Christel was born in Solingen, Germany on January 19, 1934. She loved to travel and visited many countries in her early 20’s before immigrating to Montreal, Canada in 1957. In 1961 she married Rudy and they eventually settled in Mississauga. She was a talented seamstress and became an instructor for the Peel Board of Education and taught sewing in the evenings for many years. She loved teaching and was well liked by her students. During the days she worked as a Manager for a fabric store, although it is debatable whether she sold more fabric than she bought. Over time she amassed a huge collection of fabrics. In later years she still traveled on vacation to Spain, and helped care for her grandchildren. She had such strength, determination and sass and has shown so much courage these last couple of months. She will be greatly missed. Love you forever! A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Cattel Centre (located next door to the Turner Family Funeral Home), 53 Main Street, Dundas. The family would like to send special thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Carpenter Hospice for their excellent care and support these last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations go to Carpenter Hospice.
On July 14, 2022, in his 94th year, at the Guelph General Hospital. He was comforted by the support of his children in his final days and his Granddaughter, Marie Nolan (nee Leblanc), held his hand as he left this life. Patrick worked for many years at Valley City Manufacturing, first as a draftsman and was Vice-President when he retired at the age of 60. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine “Kit” (nee Mundy) in 1999 after caring for her during her fight with cancer. She was gone too soon.
Originally from Charleville Ireland, he first emigrated to England where he met the love of his life on a blind date. The two loved each other until the end and he continued to love her until he joined her. He said in his last days that she was waiting for him and wanted to make sure he was okay.
He was involved in many charitable works throughout his life and had a strong belief in helping those who were less fortunate. He was a Volunteer at his parish of St. Augustine’s and raised funds to support low-income housing through the Knights of Columbus. He truly believed in “do unto others”.
In his later years he spent time between Ontario and his son’s home in Victoria, BC until he was too unwell to fly.
Everyone who knew Pat knew two things about him: if he liked you, he teased you; if he loved you, he teased you mercilessly; and he was also the consummate flirt. He had an amazing sense of humour and loved deeply. He wanted his children to know that he loved them all and said it many times as he neared the end.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stone Lodge and Wellington Terrace where he resided in the last years of his life. Staff always were enthused to tell his children how wonderful he was.
The family would also like to thank his attending physician at Guelph General Hospital – 4 West and the very caring nursing and professional staff there.
Patrick was predeceased by his wife and companion of 54 years, Catherine (Kit), his Parents; Michael and Anne (O’Connor), Brothers Tom and Jack and Sisters Mary and Sheila. He is survived by his five children: Ann (Arnie), Pat (Debra), Joe (Sue),Daniel (Tom), and John (Ron); his grandchildren David, Marie, Michael, Thomas, Sonya, Danielle, Charles, Venessa, and Ashley; and his many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 17, 2022 from 1 – 3 PM at Turner Family Funeral Home,53 Main St. Dundas. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Parish Church, 58 Sydenham St., Dundas at 11a.m. on Monday, July 18, with internment to follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Dundas, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for those wishing to pay tribute to Patrick to make a donation in his name to the charitable organization of your choice.
The family is grateful for the love and support they have received through this difficult time.
Passed away peacefully in her sleep, in her 97th year while residing at St. Joseph’s Villa. She was predeceased by all her siblings: Gerald, Bill, Boyd, George, Elizabeth (Beth), Mary (Neale), and Frances, and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Helen was very active with several churches, St. Luke’s in Hamilton and Christ Church in Flamborough, being a long-time church organist for both. For many decades, she volunteered at the Mission to the Seamen, ran by the Anglican Church of Canada.
Helen graduated from the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing as well as from McMaster University. She went on to teach at various public and secondary schools boards in Ontario. She specialized in languages, mainly French and German, but also Latin when required. Her final placement was working with special needs students.
Helen was obsessed with reading, and actually studied to be a Librarian.
Within the family and church circles, she was also famous for her cooking, but don’t ask for a recipe, everything was always off the cuff.
Her six favorite things, in no particular order were: books, family, canine and feline pets (who ruled the house), coffee, chocolate and wine.
She will be missed by those she left behind.
Cremation has taken place. A private family Graveside Service will take place. Thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care.
