Dear Bruce, I am really grateful I knew you and Eleanor. You two always made us smile when my husband and I bumped into you, Eleanor and Sir Digby as we called him on the streets of Pleasant Valley as we walked our dogs. My history with you two goes way back. You lived across the street from my parents in Ancaster. My dad, Chuck, also worked at McMaster and spoke of you both kindly. When I was a mature student at McMaster I met with Eleanor who graciously granted me university credits for my college diploma. And then I moved to Dundas and meet up with you again with our dogs. My husband and I moved to Nelson, BC April 2021 but still get the Hamilton Spectator where I read about lovely Eleanor. My heart broke for you Bruce. I learned another side to Eleanor when Sir Digby died.I arrived with read wine in sympathy and when she pulled it out of the bag she said happily, “nice”. Made me chuckle. We will toast you both tonight BC time! Big hug. Trish, George and Archie the poodle.
My condolences to Bruce and family. Had the pleasure of working with Eleanor over the years at McMaster and she was always will to share her knowledge and advice. Many students benefited from her counsel and guidance. RIP Eleanor.
Our sincere condolences Bruce to you and your family, on Eleanor’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
May your loving memories, including your Nova Scotia visits, help ease your sorrow and keep her close to you.
Wishing you all peace .

I knew my sister Eleanor was a gentle, loving woman of extraordinary integrity and thoughtfulness all her life, but it was only in this past year that I fully appreciated how truly strong and brave she was. This quotation which she chose to sum up our mother’s life years ago seems to describe her just as precisely …
2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”…
Dear Bruce, Paul, Catherine & Family,
My heart breaks with yours on the loss of Eleanor…
I had the privilege of working with Eleanor at McMaster University. She was an amazing leader and the University is richer for her guidance and integrity. Mostly, I treasured our friendship… her dry sense of humour, wit, laughter, kind and gentle manner. She will be so missed by so many…
Please know I am thinking of you this week and in the sad days ahead…
With love & in sympathy,
Liz xoxo
