God has called home His precious child, Tjitske (Jessie) Jacoba Verduyn. Jessie was born in Dokkum, Netherlands May 11, 1934 and died February 22, 2021 in her 87th year in Dundas, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband, John in 2003. Lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren: Lawrence – Shondra, Laura and Darryl; Lloyd (Tami) – Zak and Kaitlyn (predeceased 2019); Dorothy (Ron) – John, Stephanie and Janica; Robert (Hettie) – Trevor and Chris; Simon (Elsie) – Jonathan, Dulcie and Shane; and her 14 great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by her siblings: her twin sister, Dorris, Margaret, Ann (John), Jack (Joyce), Olga (Rick) and Tony (Donna) and predeceased by both brothers Eddie, sister Corrie and in-laws Henry and Sam. Private family Service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home. To join Jessie’s livestreamed Service, please see her obituary on the funeral home website. Jessie had a deep love for her children and wanted the best for them. She was a staunch supporter of Christian schooling, contributing to them in several ways…financial, of course, but also in organizing several different fund raising events while her children attended these schools, especially Calvin Christian School and Hamilton District Christian High in the Hamilton area.
We remember her generosity. Coming from B.C. and visiting relatives while doing so, we always felt welcomed by Jessie and enjoyed swapping stories. She would frequently invite out for dinner at a restaurant she had discovered and it was always her treat. Conversation would often centre on common experiences and that would bring laughter and tears. We could share good times as well as those that were painful. And she could be brutally honest about these not hiding painful incidents. Even though immigration was difficult, Canada became her home and she loved her adopted country.
Mom loved going to West End Diner. That was her favorite place to eat. We would always order the same thing. It was always nice to see mom out and enjoying herself. Those were special memories of our time spent together.

I remember visiting aunt Jessie and uncle John on the farm as a kid. Almost every weekend. We had so much fun and fond memories. Their house was filled with games and laughter. They all were an extension of our family. In our prayers for strength and comfort. Love you all.
MJ, Moma Jessie, I will miss you very much. I’m just sorry I wasn’t able to visit you more considering I live so close to you. Unfortunately, during these times, it just wasn’t in the cards. I will always remember our visits to the West End Diner and how much fun we had. My childhood memories of playing soup cans and how we would laugh about it over 30 years later. Love always J.
