    I had the pleasure of Jim’s company one time while opening up our cottage
    On Oxtongue Lake, Jim sang songs with my uncles Murray and Peter,
    Their little ditties became a competition and they would all crack me up
    He made a so many tough and messy chores seem like a walk in the park
    He always had a way to make us see the lighter side of life
    His indomitable spirit and quick wit will be dearly missed.

    Dear Joy and Family Jim made many wooden lapel pins for members of the Afternoon Singers. I am fortunate to have one! He was a multi-tasked gentleman who undertook so many tasks for us, without complaining. He loved leading the sing-a-long and got everyone singing and laughing. One thing Jim did, that made me respect him so very much was that he always made eye contact as he spoke.making one feel comfortable and important. My motto has been the love shared will never be lost!

    Joy, I am so very sorry for your loss. Jim was an amazing spirit, always a grin on his face and chuckle in his voice. He had a wonderful way of listening to sometimes a very lengthy story, never glazing over when I could be too verbose! Mom was so happy that you both loved Dad’s fishing boat and once getting it “seaworthy” christening it the “Madrid” after both of their names. He will be your Guardian Angel to watch over you.

    Dear Joy,

    As someone who had the pleasure of working with Jim I can say without hesitation that I have never met a more honest, kind and fair-minded person. He made sure everything got done, and done properly, but allowed time for fun at work as well. I shall never forget the day he came with a child’s jar of bubble soap and blew bubbles as he minced around the office telling Lawrence Welk to “eat his heart out”. I know many public servants will remember him as the piper who once piped the opening of the legislature as well.

    I will be remembering the love you shared with him this week, a love that was very important to his happiness.
    We were so lucky to know him.

    We just happened to be talking to Ken Mills this morning and he told us of Jim’s passing. We were taken by surprise to say the least. We can’t imagine the loss you must be feeling. You always seemed so happy since you met Jim. Our perception is that he was a kind, loving, gentle man and that he loved and adored you. I wish I could be there to give you a hug and support you in the way that I have felt supported by both you and Jim in the past.     There are no words I could properly Express the shock that overcame me when I heard the news of the sudden passing of uncle Jim. No matter who I spoke with in the family, I always heard how busy he kept himself. He was always doing one activity or another. It was said that he was next to impossible to get ahold of because every time someone tried he was never at home. Unfortunately I never was able to see any of his artistic abilities, but I can say that if he had any similarities to the artistic abilities of his brother Pete he definitely had talent. To all that knew and loved uncle Jim his memory will never fade providing you continue to talk about the good times that were shared. While the next days weeks and months pass by there will be little things that will make a smile come across your face and we are to remember the lesson that we must live each day with no regrets. Our thoughts go out to the family and the friends who are dealing with the disbelief the shock and the unanswered questions. Remember the good times and help each other through the sad.     I got to know Jim at the Tuesday “Sing-a-long” at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas. He was usually accompanied by Wilma, his capable pianist. The text of the old-time favourites would appear on the screen and Jim would bellow out the tunes with great accuracy both textually and musically. I admired the energy with which he sang the tunes. Jim would always greet all the seniors personally with a handshake and often with some personal comments. He knew many by name. Often he would stop to chat a bit with myself (I attended with a friend I was visiting every Tuesday at the lodge) – he took an interest in other people and showed them respect. Jim often injected some humour and on occasion would read a humourous anecdote. It was a great shock when I heard of his sudden passing. I am sure that he will be missed by both the seniors and the staff at Wentworth Lodge. My personal condolences to his wife and all those who knew him best. I was blessed to know him. May he rest in peace.
