Gertrude was a kind, loving person who brought much happiness to my father. She lead a remarkable life and we will all remember her fondly.
As a niece of Howard Dickinson, my favourite uncle, I was very happy that he met and married Gertrude. I was present when they were married in Hamilton. He was warmly loved by her and appreciated her kindness and caring very much. When she visited me in Edmonton, I interviewed her for her life story and would be happy to share my notes with the family. Gertrude was always very thoughtful with my mother, Mary Inrig, bringing her homemade soup many times. I am glad that Mom and I were able to visit her within the past year. Although Gertrude could not remember me, she did have recall of my mother and, as we left, said how much she enjoyed talking about old times with her. I am sorry that I cannot attend the memorial service. I am in Edmonton and have recently had surgery.
I can only echo my dad’s sentiments. Gertrude was incredibly kind. Our thoughts in New Zealand are with her.
I will always remember the wonderful stories that Gertrude told about her nursing adventures in northern Canada and growing up in Manitoba. She certainly took great care of my father-in-law at a time when he needed it most and we were all touched by her kindness. The world has lost a gentle soul.
i would like to offer condolences to the family on behalf of Gertrudes nursing colleagues from the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1964A. She will be missed.
