July 29, 1930 – November 4, 2015
After a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, our dear husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 4th 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital, at the age of 85. Nick was born in Hilversum, Holland, where he grew up during the second World War. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 25, where he married his “lieve schat” Dia, his faithful companion for 59 years. Nick was well-known for his determination and sheer hard work, building up a successful meat packing business, and later running a strawberry and raspberry farm. He was a man of great integrity and faithfulness, and he retained his warm sense of humor to the end of his life. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Dia (nee Brokking) and his four daughters: Connie (Jeljer), Glenda (Jerry), Jennifer and Christine (Jan). He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Nicholas (Naomi), Lucas (Sandra), Maria and Deirdre in Canada, and Rachel (Wes), Daphne, David and Jody, all in Holland. Visitation will be held at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Monday, November 9th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Tuesday November 10th 10:30 am to 11:00 am with the funeral service following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Salvation Army, an organization Nick held in high regard, would be appreciated.
Dia and family,
Please accept my deep condolences on the loss of your beloved father and husband. While he is now resting in the arms of the Lord, I am sure you will miss him greatly. May the peace of the Lord carry you at this difficult time.
With sympathy,
John Kuypers
Dear Connie and Family Godyn,
de mensen van voorbij worden niet vergeten
zij zijn in een ander weten
bij God mogen zij wonen
daar kan pijn niet komen
de mensen van voorbij
leven vrij in God’s licht
Mijn oprechte deelneming met het verlies van U man en jullie Vader .

Dear Tante Dia and cousins, my sincere condolences to you!!! Oma Nick will live on in my memory, how could I forget!!! Always cheerful and full of good humour and sometimes a little advice too!!!
It was always a highlight growing up when after the second Sunday service Dad would turn to Mom upon exiting the Dundas FRC parking lot and say, “well Truss should we go have coffee with Nico and Dia”???? I remember being thrilled when the car turned right out of the parking lot instead of left. Right was going to the Godyn’s and left was going home to Campbellville. That was a ritual, lot’s of Oma Nick’s stories and some delicious treat’s from Tante Dia’s kitchen!!! I still remember hearing the roar of Oma Nick’s laugh above all the comotion of the ping-pong tournament’s that went on at the same time in the basement with the cousins. Tante Dia, Connie, Glenda, Jennifer and Christine I’m sorry I could not be with you today, I hope you understand why!!!! You will be in my thoughts,……Love Pete.
