Herbison, Rev. Donald (March 20,1926)…Peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Monday August 17th at St.Joseph’s Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Muriel (Brubacher) of 63 years. Loving father of sons David (Sandy), Paul (Jan), Timothy (Sue); daughter Ruth Ann (Barry Sigurdson); Proud grandfather of Adam, Charity(Brian), Dan(Yvonne), Emily, Joshua, Caleb, Kiersten, Josiah, Elijah .Special great grandfather to Malachi, Zachary, and Abby. Predeceased by his parents Rev. James C. and Elizabeth Herbison; deceased brother Archie; deceased sister Margaret(Marvin) Smith. Rev. Herbison will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, June Herbison, his nieces and nephews, church friends & by those he has ministered to over the years in Sutton, Erin & Ospringe, Erskine Church, Hamilton and Knox Church, Dundas (Minister of Visitation in retirement). Serving 35 years as Clerk of Presbytery in the Brampton & Hamilton areas. Visitation at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers, 53 Main St, Dundas on Monday August 24, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service at Knox Presbyterian Church, 23 Melville St. Dundas on Tuesday August.25th at 11.00 am. Interment Wednesday August.26th in Thamesville Cemetery, Thamesville, Ontario. For those who wish, memorial gifts may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Dundas or to a charity of your choice.

We are sorry to read of Don’s death. I have many happy memories of our work to-gether as Presbyterian ministers in many capacities. He was a faithful servant of Christ.

I also met Ruth Ann at Willowdale Church in Alberta, where I started in 1978.

I just want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to you–Rev. Herbison was loved by all at our church in Ospringe and was terribly missed when he left. He baptized my daughters and I have many great memories of him and thank God for the few years that we were privileged to have him as our minister.

I had the great privilege of knowing Don through the Synod of Southwestern Ontario’s regular meetings. It was so wonderful to know the two of you when I did my field placement at Knox, Dundas in 1998. You made me feel so welcome and it was so lovely to visit your home. Thank you. Don was such a wonderful and welcoming gentle spirit. He will be missed!

We first met Rev. Herbison at Ospringe in 1971. We were a new young family. We enjoyed his ministry there. When he discovered I played the organ, he recruited me to play. This lasted for 15 years.
I enjoyed his sense of humour, his ministry and his loud baritone voice which helped me and led the congregation through all the rousing hymns.
We offer our sincere condolences to Ruth Ann and all the family.

I was very sorry to hear of Don’s death. I had the privilege of being in Binkley Youth Group with Ruth Ann. I enjoyed hearing Don’s joyful singing at Presbyterty meetings. As an organist at Erskine Presbyterian, I heard many stories of the wonderful ministry that Don and Muriel had there. I know so many of their former parishioners will be bereft. I have so many memories of Mr Herbison…his kindness to me and Lucy, Gavin, Jamie and John when we first arrived in Hamilton; his and Muriel’s hospitality to our extended family every time they visited from Scotland; his big heart and his never-failing encouragement and of course his singing. Yes, as Dawn said, I feel bereft, but thankful for having known him for 40 years.
His Anchor held and his influence will live on.
Muriel and Family, We are so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. We enjoyed knowing your family very much, and Rev. Herbison and all of you were a vital part of our community for many years. We profited from his sermons, his personality and his friendship. We had a card to send to you, but have been unable to locate your address, so are sending this email instead. Several people at Burns have been recalling fond memories of Mr. Herbison.

I was sorry to hear of Rev. Herbison’s passing. He was a special person to Pete and I. He married us in 1966. He came to one of our special anniversaries at the church and called people by name that he had not seen in many years. I teased him about “doing his homework” and he admitted that his trusted wife would go over names, etc. at Ospringe on the way to the event so he was prepared.
