September 1, 1931 – May 15, 2015
On May 15, 2015, with sadness, we announce the passing of a wonderful strong woman. A retired school teacher, sister, aunt, great aunt, adopted grandmother and friend to many, she loved to meet people and talked with passion about her life of travel and all the students she taught over the years. Of all her groups, organizations and committees, it was The Broccoli Club that made her smile. Survived by sisters, Sheila Huxley and Barbara Ford, predeceased by brother Robert Vail and parents Allan Douglas (Bill) Vail and Beatrice (Nellie) Vail. She was loved and so proud of her caring family who will miss her always. A special thank you to St. Joseph’s Villa, Maple Grove nursing and support staff for the patience, kindness and support shown to Dawn throughout her years there. Family will gather for a private remembrance and celebration of her life. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Dawn would have been pleased to have donations be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association and appreciated by the family.
My mother, Elizabeth, my brother Frank and I, Peter, would like to offer our condolences.
Frank and I attended Queen Mary School in Hamilton and Frank was one of Dawn’s grade 3 pupils. Frank became a ballet dancer and now is a dance professor at Adelphi University on Long Island. Over the years, we had frequent contacts with Dawn, mainly due to Dawn’s interest in following Frank’s career as a dancer.
Frank has fond memories of his teacher “Miss Vail” who became a great influence in his life. We all will miss Dawn.
Peter Augustyn.
