Sostar, Edward “Ed” – It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Edward, surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his wife Helen Sostar (nee McArthur), parents Nicholas and Anna Sostar and brothers Andrew and Amo Sostar, and brothers-in-law Harvey Alderdice and Allan McArthur and his wife Carolyn McArthur. Proud and loving father to Cathy Schoales (Dr. Blair), Mary Pat Davies (Dr. Gareth), Nick Sostar (Sandra), and Dr. Paul Sostar (Stephanie). Survived by his brother Steve (Shorty) Sostar (Hilda) and sisters-in-law Anne Sostar, Colleen Alderdice and Pat Baus (John). Devoted and caring Grandfather to Matthew, Daniel, Sarah, James and Laurel Schoales, Morgan and Jacqueline Davies, Brittany and Jordan Sostar and Colin, Aaron, Caitlin and Abby Sostar. Also sadly missed by all of his extended numerous family and friends. Ed was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and an active volunteer within the community. He enjoyed roughing it with “The Old Boys” on numerous fishing trips. His laughter and sense of humour will be greatly missed. A special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Villa, especially on Balsam Trail and also to all those who provided comfort to Ed in any way. Friends will be received by the family on Sunday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be appreciated by the family.
I have such fond memories of Uncle Ed. A gentle soul with a huge heart. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Elizabeth, Brian, Hannah and Sarah
Please accept our deepest sympathy at the loss of your dear father and brother. We know that Edward was dear to all of you. We will always remember his warmth and great sense of humour. Edward and Steve and Amo and their families are my only relatives in Canada. It is a very sad day for us too. Unfortunately we are in Florida and will not be able to attend, but we will be there in spirit. Our love to you all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult days.

Dear Sostar family,
We are all so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. we have such fond memories of him – his laughter resounded in the Walker house, at the kitchen table kibitzing with Johnny. We loved the crazy stories of their fishing trips and their many adventures. I know that they will now be reunited – they are laughing and maybe making cabbage rolls.
Ed will always be in our hearts.
Love Vera Walker and family
Dear Sostar clan, so sorry about Ed. Our prayers are with all of you. On your mom and dad’s wedding day during the reception, Ed said to me, “Freddie, lets take a ride”. I was about 10 at the time and thought Ed was the greatest. So we drove down the highway for about 5 miles and stopped at a motel. Ed got out and got a room for him and his new bride. Drove back to the reception and never said a word about where we went. Ed said we must keep it a secret, and we did. Myself and JoAnn and our girls all love the Sosters. Your mom and dad were the best. God bless them.
Love to all, the Walkers
The Sostar family . We are terribly so sorry for the loss of your father . He was a great man and I am so glad that I had the pleasure of meeting him . Our thoughts from our family to yours we are thinking of you at this time in need . John & Marcy McCurdy and family .
Ed’s great gift to us all was his innate empathy. When our family was young and relatively small, Ed’s quiet acts of kindness were so insightful that Vicky and I didn’t even know that we needed what Ed offered to us. It was only after the fact that we realized how ‘spot on’ he was. A singularly class act.
The Sostar family. Sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, now and always. Your father and entire family were not just neighbors, you were friends. Good memories in life last forever. Steve, Jackie and Trevor Hood
Nick and Sandra:
