I just heard of Tom’s passing from one of our nurses here. I am so sorry for your loss, he was an amazing Doctor, man and human being. I loved him dearly, as many of the Garden girls did. His profound statement regarding the “absence of evidence not being an indicator of evidence of absence” in relation to disease process has had a life altering impact on the way that I provide care to all those I come in contact with. He will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear of your fathers passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Fiona and with all of your family.
I remember Tom very fondly from his days at UMH, where he sat, during meals, right across from my mother. Tom could spend 15 minutes getting his meal “enhanced” with various hot sauces and liberal shakes of pepper, sometimes spraying it in all directions. After meal times he’d bang away on the piano, or (in the earlier years) page through the medical textbooks at the nursing station. I think he missed being a doctor. Tom was interesting and unique, a true iconoclast. My deepest sympathies to his family.
