May 7, 1930 – July 21, 2014
In his 85th year, at home on July 21, 2014. Husband of the late Irene Groen (2009), brother to Tom (Alice), Neil (Wilma), George (1987) (Betty) and Elizabeth (2011), (Anton) (2013). Survived by children, John (Toby), Judy (Gerry), and Sue (Tom); grandchildren, Michael (Angela), Murray, Adam, Becky, Tyson, Melissa, Amy, and Brittney; great grandchildren Jonathan, Chloe, Carson, Bryson, and Emma. Also survived by two aunts Adriana Vanderschee and Jany Groen, many nieces and nephews, plus many close relatives in the Netherlands. An entrepreneur and farmer for most of his life, Andy was also a life member and past president of the Ancaster Agricultural Society. He was a passionate believer in the importance of family and was instrumental in keeping relationships active with relatives and friends in Canada and the Netherlands. In keeping with Andy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Many thanks to all the CCAC workers and the VON whose support allowed Andy to remain in his home for many years. Also our thanks go to Dr. Gideon and Dr. Pickett, who made his last few years so much easier by making house calls. Their compassion is greatly appreciated. Smokey died as he lived: in charge. He can now rest in comfort and in peace.
