Godyn, Nicolaas “Nico”

July 29, 1930 – November 4, 2015

After a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, our dear husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 4th 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital, at the age of 85. Nick was born in Hilversum, Holland, where he grew up during the second World War. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 25, where he married his “lieve schat” Dia, his faithful companion for 59 years. Nick was well-known for his determination and sheer hard work, building up a successful meat packing business, and later running  a strawberry and raspberry farm. He was a man of great integrity and faithfulness, and he retained his warm sense of humor to the end of his life. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Dia (nee Brokking) and his four daughters: Connie (Jeljer), Glenda (Jerry), Jennifer and Christine (Jan).  He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Nicholas (Naomi), Lucas (Sandra), Maria and Deirdre in Canada, and Rachel (Wes), Daphne, David and Jody, all in Holland.  Visitation will be held at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Monday, November 9th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Tuesday November 10th 10:30 am to 11:00 am with the  funeral service following at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Salvation Army, an organization Nick held in high regard, would be appreciated.

Johnson, David George – November 30, 1940 – November 5, 2015. Called home to be with his Lord,  peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton on Thursday, November 5, 2015. Loved and cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather to Phil and Debbie Johnson, Vanessa and Bailey Johnson, Leanne and Paul Yates, Rachel and Jeremy, Carlie, Clayton and Caleb Snoddon, Matthew and Tyler Yates, James Buhlman, Sandra and Colin Regnerus, Jeff, Erica and Daniel, Kris, Dayva, Drew and Aaron Regnerus. Son-in-law to Marjorie Tredwell, brother-in-law Rick and Mary Ann Tredwell, uncle to Courtney.  Visitation to take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where the service for David will be held Wednesday, November 11th at 3 p.m. Cremation and private family interment has taken place.  In Lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to World Vision Canada or St. Joseph’s Villa.

Bentley (Gerritsen), Zachary Edward “Zac”

October 9, 1990 – October 31, 2015

Bentley (Gerritsen), Zachary Edward “Zac” – Suddenly on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the age of 25. Beloved son of Shannon Bentley and Mark Gerritsen, and loving brother to Kara, Brenden and Isabella. Zac will be sadly missed by his Nana Sylvia and Papa Bert Bentley, his Oma Henny Gerritsen, and by his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his Opa Toni Gerritsen. Zac will also be missed at the hockey rink, both as a player and a fan. Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. The Funeral for Zac will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the COPETOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE, 1950 Governor’s Road, Copetown. Interment White Chapel Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program would be appreciated.

 

Croft, James “Jim”

May 9, 1936 – October 27, 2015

Peacefully at Alexander Place on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in his 79th year.  Jim is predeceased by his loving wife Irene (1997).  Cherished father of Graham (Deborah), Mandy and Melvyn.  Jim is survived by his twin sister Marina, brother Bill and sister Mary.  Much loved grandfather to Melissa (Damien), Justin, Amanda, Kyle, Tegan, Devin, Danielle, Eric, Ryan, Jessica and great grandson Lucas.  Also sadly missed by Doreen and Leslie McCulloch.  Special thanks to Alexander Place for their years of care and compassion shown towards Jim.  Friends will be received by the family on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Cremation has taken place.  In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Patterson, John Stewart

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of John Stewart Patterson on Tuesday October 27th. John was born November 4th, 1934 to Ella Rose Longmoore and Henry Patterson in Inverness, Quebec. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years Barbara Anne Walker and his children Anne Patterson (Jason), Laura (Mike) Thomas, David (Carla) Patterson and Sharon (Aaron) Little.  Grandchildren Isaac and Jesse Whynott, Tyler and Ryann Patterson and Ethan and Owen Little will miss their quirky and funny grandfather. John is now reunited with his daughter Marcia Rose Patterson, brothers Ralph and Hollis and his sisters Jean Wright and Edna (George) Marshall and survived by his long-time friend and brother-in-law Ken Wright. He will be deeply missed as well by Bill and Joyce Moore and so many friends and relatives around the area. People who met John always grew so fond of him; he was a very simple guy that just loved to make people laugh. He never wanted a lot in life, just his home and his family and every once and a while….a new car. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and PSWs (Riza and Barb) who have helped John maintain his health over the past few years….that best portion of a good man’s life, His little, nameless, unremembered, acts Of kindness and of love.  Friends will be received by the family on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m at the Turner Family Funeral Home, (formerly Cattel & Eaton Funeral Home), 53 Main Street, Dundas where the Celebration of John’s life will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2015 at 2 p.m.  Interment to follow at Grove Cemetery.

Livens, Douglas Anthony “Doug”

Livens, Douglas Anthony – It is with deep sadness that the family of Douglas Anthony Livens announce his passing on October 27, 2015 in his 83rd year. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sheila White-Livens; his daughter, Jean Horst (John) and his step-children, James Coe (Sandra) and Heather Goulet (Charlie). Douglas is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Russell, Holly Gregory and Robert; and his faithful fur baby, Max; as well as many family members in the U.K.  With a passion for aviation, Douglas took to the skies every chance he could. When he was no longer able to fly he became an aviator on the ground thanks to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum where he volunteered for many years. Douglas was honoured to be a 32 Degree Mason during his lifetime membership with Electric Lodge #495.  A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Donations to the Warplane Heritage Museum would be appreciated by the family.

Samson, Joseph William – Passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, October 24, 2015. He will be loved and missed always by Fran, his wife of 59 years.  Predeceased by his daughter Ann, and sisters Rita and Theresa. Lovingly remembered by his children Mary Ellen, Ted (Barbara), Jane (Andrew), Joan (Rob) and son-in-law Kevin; his grandchildren Katie, Sammy, Jamie, Shannon, Mary and Jodi, sister-in-law Marion and brother-in-law Ted. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday evening, October 28th from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Funeral Mass will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Thursday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m.  Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be attended by family at a later date.  If you so wish, donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would be appreciated by the family.

Eden, Helen Louise (nee Budgen)

EDEN, Helen Louise (née Budgen) – Helen died Monday, October 19, 2015, in her 91th year. She was the beloved wife of the late James Blay Eden (2012), and loving mother of Jim (Grace), Diane Stirton (John), Rosemary (Pierre Gosselin), and David (David Richer). She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Lisa Wood (Dave), Jim Stirton (YiLing Chen), Annie Thomas (Mark), and Chris (Eva); great-grandsons Ethan Thomas and Owen Chen-Stirton; great-granddaughters Lauren Thomas and Mackenzie ; nephews Bob (Shirlie) and John; and other family members and friends in Canada and England. Helen was predeceased by her beloved son Ken, parents Bessie and Jack Budgen, brothers John Budgen and Jim Budgen.  She helped her husband build a successful market gardening business in Dundas and was always a truly devoted and caring mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A member of St. James Anglican Church in Dundas for over 60 years, she served on the ACW and as a member of the Parish Council.  The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the staff at the Brant Centre LTC in Burlington, especially the staff of Hidden Valley.  A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 1382 Ontario St., Burlington ON L7S 1G1 (entrance on Elgin St), Saturday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment at Grove Cemetery, Dundas, on Saturday, October 31st at 11a.m. If desired, memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

 

Ofield, Raymond Edward

On October 17, 2015, Ray Ofield, aged 61, peacefully passed away at Hamilton General Hospital surrounded by his family.  Ray was predeceased by his parents Edward and Lila, and sister Kathy.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years Denise, his sons Dave (Janeva) and Charlie, his grandson Cameron Ray and his brother Ken (Kim).  Always the optimist; Ray was loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.  He loved his family dearly and will always be remembered as a caring and loving father and grandfather.  Ray grew up in Copetown and raised his family in Flamborough.  He greatly enjoyed building the family’s cottage in Stoke’s Bay for which he personally cut and milled the wood with the help of his brother and father.  He worked at Bell Canada in Hamilton for over 30 years and will also be remembered for his years of involvement with Beverly minor hockey in both the coaching and administration roles.  Friends will be received by the family for a celebration of Ray’s life on Thursday October 22, 2015 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the Copetown Community Centre, 1950 Governors Road, Dundas.  There will be an open mic and the family would welcome hearing any anecdotes about Ray during the memorial.

Clark, Joan Charlotte

April 26, 1950 – October 16, 2015

Peacefully at Freeport Hospice in Kitchener on Friday, October 16, 2015 in her 66th year.  Joan is survived by her mother Charlotte Little, her brother Bob Little and was predeceased by her father Lyman Little.  Loving  mother of Angelisa, Kendra (Kyler) Pomeroy and Scott.  Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, October 20th from 10 a.m. until the Celebration of Joan’s Life at 11 a.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, followed by an interment at White Chapel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the S.P.C.A would be appreciated by the family.
