With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Martin James McGrath, after a long and hard battle with cancer on Saturday, Febraury 15th 2014.  Beloved husband of 39 years to Sylvia (McManus) and loving father to Megan (Dave Randell) and Colleen.  His family was by his side when he passed.  Many cherished memories of happier times will be shared by those who knew and loved Martin.  He will also be remembered by his sister Mary (Tom Niggemann)  and brothers Gerald (Suzanne Davidson) and Kevin (Patricia Mahoney) sister and brother-in-law Charlyne and Paul Carrier, and many nieces, nephews, their spouses and grand-nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents Irene and Gerry McGrath and sister Ursula (Bill Boeh), and his in-laws Margaret and Tommy McManus.  Martin taught for many years in Huntingdon, Quebec and Mildmay Ontario.  He was involved in refereeing, hockey coach, scouts, Optimist Club and Christopher Leadership Courses.  Friends will be received by the family, on Wednesday, February 19th in the afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  A Graveside Service for Martin will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 620 Governor’s Rd. East, Paris, Ontario on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11 a.m.  Cremation has taken place.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

Gent, Duncan Stanley “Dunc”

Gent, Duncan Stanley “Dunc” – Peacefully at Wentworth Lodge on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in his 89th year.  Dearly loved by his wife Beatrice (Elkin); his sons Thomas (Marlene) and William (Leesa); grandchildren Michael, Nadine and Spencer and great-grandson Ethan.  Predeceased by his first wife Nellie (1997) and sister Joyce Lord and her husband Stanley. Dunc was well accomplished; he began as a carpenter, apprenticing at the age of 14, learning old school methods which attracted people seeking out his expertise; he was in the Merchant Navy in WWII; was a long time member of St. James Anglican Church; was one of the founding members and member for 50 years of the Police Male Chorus; member of the Probus Club; member of the Masonic Lodge #593 and continued on in the 1950’s to be a Police Officer, retiring as a Sgt. from the identification branch (forensics) in 1984. He was an avid gardener, winning the JC and Trillium awards several times, enjoyed cottage life, fishing and the great outdoors.  Friends will be received by the family on Friday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.  Dunc’s Service will take place on Saturday at ST. JAMES ANGLICAN CHURCH, 137 Melville Street, Dundas at 11:00 a.m.  Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens.  If you so wish, donations to St. James Anglican Church or a charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.

McDonald, George

December 15, 1931 – February 7, 2014

Peacefully with his family and friends by his side on Friday February 7, 2014.  George is predeceased by his wife Margaret (2009).  Cherished father of George (Bev), Christine (Dirk) and Graham (Andrea).  George was predeceased by his brothers and sisters and will be sadly missed by his family in Scotland.  Much loved grandfather to Jenny (Rob), Graham (Becky), Aaron, Laurel, Duncan, Malcolm and great-grandfather of Jack.  Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday afternoon  from 2-4 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. May 12, 1935 – February 4, 2014

Barr, Dr. James – With great sorrow, the family of Jim Barr announce his passing on Tuesday, February 4th, in his 79th year, after a courageous struggle with serious illness. He is greatly missed by Lavinia (Vin), his wife and best friend of almost 52 years, and by his sons Alan, Colin (Jennifer), and daughter Katherine (Colin). Also missed by grandchildren Carolyn, James, Gavin, and Madelyn, brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Janne White and family, the Simons family, cousin Jack Reid, and many other family and friends in Canada, England, Australia, and United States, including from Mohawk College, St. Mark’s United Church, the Second Wind recorder group, St. Joseph’s Estates, and Probus Club.  Special thanks to Dr. Bev and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, for their care and kindness in the last month, and to Dr. Susan Goodwin.  Cremation has taken place.  Friends will be received by the family, on Thursday, February 27th from 7-9 p.m. at ST. MARK’S UNITED CHURCH, 1 Lyndale Dr. Dundas, where a Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Friday February 28, 2014 at 11 a.m.  Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to. St. Mark’s United Church kitchen renovation fund, or to St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation.

Bryant-Truax, Helen Patricia

March 17, 1915 – February 2, 2014

Bryant-Truax, Helen Patricia (nee Wilkinson) – On February 2nd, 2014, in her 99th year mom left us peacefully in her sleep.  She was the loving mother of Judy Hopkins, Barbara Williams (Dave) and the late Beth Weller.  Supportive Grandma of Teri Murphy (Kevin), Mark Hopkins (Brenda), Kathy Gillam (Chris), Tricia Williams (Phil McBride) and Krista Williams. Great Grandma of Rachel and Matthew Murphy, Kylie, Alyssa, and Trevor Hopkins, Ben, Carter and Addison Gillam, Xavier and Bryant McBride.  She was predeceased by husbands George Bryant (1973) and Stew Truax (2003) and by her brother Bill Wilkinson and sister Rene Muirhead.  She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada attending Zion in Hamilton and St. Mark’s in Dundas.  The family welcomes you to share memories at a visitation at Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas on Thursday, February 6th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and to further celebrate her life on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. Interment White Chapel Cemetery. Suddenly at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in her 86th year.  Daughter of the late Philip and Faustina Lacroix.  Loving wife of Roger Coutu.  Cherished mother of Joy Klodt (Robert).  Grandmother of Angel, Christopher “Sunshine” (Deena), Robbie (Alexandra) and Brady Vibert.  Great Grandmother of Kaden, Jonathan, Taylor, Cameron and predeceased by Kinley.  Sister of Patsy Vendette, predeceased by her brothers Telesphore and Gerald Lacroix as well as her sisters Germaine Sartor and Beatrice McNamara.  Loving aunt and Godmother to many nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received by the family, on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas,  Rosary prayers will be said at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon.  A Funeral Mass for Dolly will be held on Friday, February 7th at 10 a.m. at ST.
