It is with sadness we announce the passing of Michael Robert Wilcox on October 25, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late June Wilcox (2021). Loving father to Robert (Marianne) Wilcox, David (Letitia) Wilcox, and Catherine (Ben) Sanderson. Proud grandfather to Robert and Megan Wilcox, Lindsay (Tyler), Ainslie, and Kylie Wilcox. Loving brother to Loretta (Santo) Alfano, and beloved uncle to Nick (Mirella) and Mike (Anna) Alfano.
Michael was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Robert and Imelda Wilcox. He grew up in the East End and was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School. Mike eventually became an insurance adjuster for Simcoe & Erie and later, York Fire. He was a proud member of the Insurance Institute of Canada as a designated Chartered Insurance Professional until his retirement in 2005. Mike loved sports and was an avid recreational hockey player, playing with the Milton Industrial Hockey League for a number of years. He loved to play tennis, golf, and was a proud season ticket holder for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. A long-time resident of Ancaster, Mike was a trusted friend and neighbour to many, and was a generous patron to many charities. Mike was a very social person, and took a genuine interest in people, their professions and their families.
His family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at Wentworth Lodge for their compassion and understanding. Their contribution to his quality of life will never be forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas, for visitations on Thursday, October 30 from 5-7 pm and Friday, October 31 from 10-11 am. The funeral service will take place at 11 am, after Friday’s visitation. The reception will take place immediately after the service, followed by the interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Ancaster.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
I am very sorry to hear of this loss. Mike was a terrific fellow who added great value to the insurance industry in Canada. He had an easy going style which was very helpful in solving significant issues. He always was upbeat, had a smile and enjoyed going to a Tiger-Cat game. My deepest regrets– Glenn Gibson, Chairman- Hamilton Sports Group Foundation
