Simpson, Helen Kathleen (nee Hutcheson)
Nov 18, 1923-March 30th, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Simpson announces her peaceful passing at home at the remarkable age of 100! Helen was born in Huntsville, Ont. to Arthur and Edna Hutcheson. She is survived by her beloved sister Janet Fisher and predeceased by her brother Dennis (Betty), sisters Ruth and Joan (Jim Amos).
Helen is also predeceased by her late husband Jim (“farmer Jim”- Feb 2000). They were married for 54 years! She is also survived by her loving daughter Jane, and sons Robert (Patricia), and John (Janet), her grandchildren Ian (Nancy), Eric (Michelle), David, Emily and her great grandchildren Avery, Ryan Isobel, Ivy and Holly. She is lovingly referred to as “Great Nanny”. Through her life, Mom was also surrounded by so many amazing cousins, in-laws, and brother and sister in-laws that kept us in an active social life.
Mom was the guiding light on the hill, with a strong conviction to her Lord. She gladly shared her love, care, wisdom, inspiration and tremendous generosity to all. She loved music, and was a long time member with Dad in the choir and guiding movement at Christ Church Flamborough. She wrote music & poems and played the cello, piano and guitar. When visiting Mom, you were treated to her renowned cooking or baking and usually sent home with pictures or a remembrance of old.
As you departed she would always ask “is there anything I can do for you?”
Special thank you to many years of gentle care by Dr. L. Coren, and more recently Dr. A. Emili and the Home health care nurse team. A special thank you to Rev. Naomi Kabugi for comforting Mom & the family, exactly when needed.
Special mention of love to her forever friends, Murdie Faulkner and Mildred Hodd (deceased).
Special mention to Julie Jackson for her kind help and friendship for Mom; as well our close cousin, Ron Spears, which Mom referred to as her 3rd son!
A Celebration of her Life will be held Friday, April 5th at Christ Church Flamborough, #92 Hwy #8, Dundas (near bullocks cors.). Visitation from 10 am with the service beginning at 11am. Interment following a reception at the church at Hamilton Cemetery by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Church memorial fund, or the “Cathedral Cafe” (Hamilton), or a charity of your choice.
Our condolences to Jane, Bob, John and the family. We will all miss Aunt Helen, she will be remembered for her kind heart and beautiful spirit. She lived a life full of love, laughter, and joy. May her soul rest in peace.
Our last link to Springhill, Aunt Helen was a loving, generous woman who will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, our deepest condolences to all. At 100 years she maintained her own home at Springhill. We thank her for the care and friendship she provided Janie (mom). She was a wonderful, classy lady, a gentle soul who will be missed by the whole family.
We’ve all lost a gentle and warm link to the families very special place, Springhill. She will be missed by all, our heartfelt condolences to Jane, Bob, John and their families. All of the Spears families will miss her kindness and gentle caring when it came to visiting Janie (mom). She would walk from her home to Janie’s, often with something sweet that she’d baked. Over tea they would carry on two different conversations, we would laugh but now find ourselves doing the same and our ears are much younger. RIP dear Aunt Helen, go now with the angels.
Passing our condolences on to all those who knew and loved Aunt Helen, especially to Jane, Bob, John and their families. We took great comfort knowing Aunt Helen was holding strong on Springhill, and will continue to take comfort knowing she is at peace. How lucky we all are to have known such a beautiful person.
We loved Helen because she was always so conscientious and thoughtful. Condolences to her family from her cousin Bob.
So very sorry for your loss, Bob and Pat and family
