Passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Thursday, November 3, 2022 in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of the late George (2008). Loving mother to Andy (Crystal) and Mike (Jamie). Caring Babcia (grandmother) to Logan, Kaedan, and Madison.
Val was a retired teacher with the HWDSB and had many rewarding years as a teacher at Queen Mary primary school. She was an active member at Erskine Presbyterian Church involved with the Women’s Missionary Society, Mildred Gehman and other outreach efforts. Val grew up in Mauston Wisconsin on the family farm with her mother Helen and started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse just outside of town. She still visited the area each year with her family to visit with old friends and former students who she remained close with. After moving to Hamilton, she began teaching with the HWDSB and met and married George, a firefighter with the Hamilton Fire Department. Travel was an important part of the annual family vacation plans, and they took their two boys in the family car for extensive road trips across Canada and the USA each summer, a lot of books were read and road trip games played together in the car. Later in life Val still enjoyed traveling and went on bus trips and cruises in Europe with her close friends, she was very grateful to have such good friends to spend this time with. Val’s last years were focused on spending time with friends and her grandchildren and she was able to remain very active attending hockey games, plays, concerts, going on family vacations, and helping to take care of Madison. She was so happy to be able to be so involved with her grandchildren. Valerie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St, Dundas, on Sunday, November 6th from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9p.m. for a visitation. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 7th at 1p.m. at Erskine Presbyterian Church. Donations can be made in memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, or CNIB Guide Dogs.

Val was a very caring teacher and friend at Queen Mary. Since we both taught there at times, we know what a force Val was for years and years. We were so sorry to hear of her passing, but know you must have many happy memories.

Mike, Andy and families – thinking about you all during this difficult time. Remembering happy times at the Pipe picnics over the years. Hold your memories close ♥️
Our condolences to all of you in the Pipe family.
She was such a cheerful and wonderful person and she was a valuable member of our church who helped so much in so many ways.
She often called us to see how we were doing at home if she had not seen us in a while. She also went out of her way to make sure everyone was included in whatever she was working on at the church and of course, was a great help with the Christmas decorations.
We are going to miss Val a lot.
We are so sorry for your loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
We have so many wonderful memories of time spent together with Val, sharing laughs and celebrating our families.
Your Mom had a smile for everyone and a heart of gold.
She is now in God’s arms and will forever be in our hearts.
I really enjoyed getting to know your mom at Erskine. I know that you will have many, many memories to draw on to help you get through the times ahead. We will be thinking of you all during this difficult time.
To Valerie’s Family
I am saddened for your loss I always enjoyed visiting with Val at the picnics through many years. As with George as well.
Although I am unable to be there today, I will be thinking of you all with love.
Your memories will help you get through this very difficult time.
Sincerely Mary
My deepest sympathy to the family of Val Pipe. My first year of teaching was in 1977 at Queen Mary School. I had grade 4 and Val was my “teaching partner”/mentor. I learned so much from her. She was a strong, kind and compassionate teacher who cared so much for each one of her students. I remember going to her home so she could help me write my first set of report cards. She always had a smile and a positive word for everyone. Such good memories for me. I hope your memories help to carry you through this difficult time.
With caring thoughts,
Mary Robertson (nee Tidball)
My condolences to the family for your loss.I would like to share that I was very fortunate to have Mrs. Pipe as my grade school teacher many years ago at Queen Mary. She saved me and I am extremely thankful for her becoming involved in my life and providing me the guidance to become the person I am today. She was an amazing woman.
