April 16, 1932 – November 19, 2019
Our family is profoundly saddened to announce Ken’s sudden passing on Tuesday, November 19th at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He slipped away quickly and peacefully, with his loved ones by his side.
He was a devoted husband for 55 years to his beloved wife, Margaret (née Harris), the much-loved father of Allison (Mark Litfin) and Kathryn (Russell Rowse), and loving Grandpa to Christopher Litfin, who was the apple of his eye. He is fondly remembered by his nephews Mike and Vince Rutter and their families, and by all his treasured family in the U.K..
Ken worked at many different jobs before embarking on his career as an elementary school teacher. His retirement in 1989 allowed him to spend many years enjoying his family, travelling and doing volunteer work. He will be very much missed by his family, friends, and church and volunteer communities.
A visitation will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St., Dundas, on Sunday, November 24th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at Christ Church Flamborough, 92 Hwy. #8, Dundas, on Monday, November 25th at 2:00 PM, with visitation prior from 1:00 PM. Please join us for a reception in the church hall after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Hamilton Foundation for Student Success in support of the Ken Snell Memorial Student Award at Westdale Secondary School or to Christ Church Flamborough, where Ken was a long-time member of the congregation, would be appreciated by the family.
Ken was a terrific person, all around. Friendly, knowledgeable, eager to assist, where he could. I’m sure he will be fondly remembered by his friends at the Dundas Little Theatre, for his many years of volunteering. He had a smile that could light up a room.
My heart goes out to his family and those he left behind. I’m sure that they will have many fond and loving memories to help them through their tragic loss.
My deepest condolences for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. Allison, you and your family will be in my thoughts
Our thoughts are with you and your family. Ken and Margret have been wonderful friends.
My thoughts are you with you and your family at this time. It is always hard to lose someone we love.
I am truly sorry for your loss. My deepest and most sincere condolences to the family.
I knew Ken only from his Dundas Little Theatre involvement. He was always a smiling face behind the bar and had interesting and perceptive comments about the productions. He was intelligent and great to talk to, andI will remember him with warmth and respect. I am so sorry to read of his death. My condolences go out to all his family and friends. He will be much missed.
My heart goes out to you Allison and your family. Your parents were so kind and patient with us back when we would take over their house for our school projects. This is the time in life you can never really prepare for. I hope you will all find peace. Love Monica
Chris,
Thinking of you at this very sad time.

My condolences to all Ken’s friends and families. I knew him as the genial barman at Dundas Little Theatre. His warm, sympathetic and supporting nature were such a welcome feature of attending performances at the theatre. His unfailing cheerfulness and perceptive comments on the productions were a constant joy. We shall miss him.

Board Chair, Dundas Little Theatre
I am so terribly shocked and saddened to hear of Ken’s death. He has been an integral part of our performance nights and days behind the Bar at DLT. Always, with Tim, KEN kept an eye on my half finished glasses of wine, which I invariably forgot and he would sternly, with the inevitable Ken ‘twinkle’ remind me to take and to finish! My deepest sympathy to his family, and especially to Kathryn, his beloved and so talented daughter. My thoughts are with you all.
I offer my sincere condolences to Margaret, Allison, Mark and Christopher, and Kathryn and Russell. There must be a huge hole in your lives and hearts.
I associated with Ken at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s Educational Archives and with the Central Public School Old Boys’ Association. It was always a pleasant experience to engage in conversation with Ken. He was a real gentleman and a very fine professional teacher. For many years he has attended Central School’s grade 5 Closing Assembly in June and handed out crests purchased by the Old Boys. Last year he asked me to assist him. I will continue to do this in his behalf. We also enjoyed ourselves at the Old Boys’ picnic at the Tamahac Club. I will miss Ken at each of these “familiar places”.
I met Ken while he volunteered at the HWDSB Educational Archives, and greatly enjoyed his stories and sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by all.
Dear Kathryn, My deepest sympathies for your loss. I have fond memories of your father. My thoughts are with you and all of your family at this difficult time. Your friend from high school days, Rebecca.
