It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear brother Paul Joseph Picone, surrounded by his loving family, at Joseph Brant Hospital on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in his 74th year.
Beloved son of the late Joseph and Elsie Picone and treasured godson of the late John and Alma Picone. Cherished brother of Sharon (Anthony), the late Donald (Catherine), Mary (Victor), Mark, David (Kim), Theresa, and Lisa (Hitoko). Proud uncle to Sarah, Paul, Maria, Pierre, Andrew, Isaac, Heather, Michael, Diane, Robert, Lucas, Megan, Victoria, Augustin, Paul, Jean-Baptiste, Eugene and Sixtine. He will be dearly missed by his many grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Paul devoted his life to education, enjoying a long and rewarding teaching career at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School, Assumption Catholic Secondary School and St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School. There he taught chemistry with contagious enthusiasm, where generations of students will remember his passion for exciting and explosive experiments that brought science to life.
Paul was blessed with a robust circle of friends. His friendship with many of his teaching colleagues extended well past his teaching career. During his retirement, while enjoying activities he loved: Trivia Nights, Bridge, Yoga, Pilates, Billiards and Mahjong, at the Burlington Seniors’ Centre, he embraced many new friendships. His popularity there earned him the title “Mayor of the Centre”. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was a loving, caring and genuine soul. Paul will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, on Thursday, November 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas, on Friday, November 13, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School Science Department Scholarship Fund, through the Halton Catholic District School Board, would be greatly appreciated, in memory of Paul’s long career and his passion for education.
