June 20, 1940 – July 21, 2014
Roos, Peter – Passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Monday, July 21, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones. Predeceased by his wife Edel (1995). Peter will be loved and missed dearly by his companion of 14 years, Martina; his son Dominik (Jennifer) and daughter Michelle (Bryan Hall) and step-children Ronny, Nicole and Stephan; grandchildren Adel, Max and Lotta; sister Waltraud Menzel (predeceased Helmut). In Peter’s younger years, he worked for the largest printing press in Germany where he was taught how to print books for school children. When Peter came to Canada he bought what was to become a well known restuarant in Dundas, the Schwaben Inn. He owned and operated this business for 34 years before retiring. He enjoyed the many years of chatting and getting to know his patrons. He happily spent his retirement chasing after his grandchildren. A special thank you is extended to the doctors and nurses at the Hamilton General Hospital for their care. Friends will be received by the family on Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Funeral Mass will take place at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Friday at 11:00 a.m. If you so wish, donations to the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital or The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Michelle,
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

You have our deepest sympathies in the lost of your dad. He was a nice man. The Biedermann Family
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband Charlie and I used to go to the restaurant quite often. Your Dad always came over and spoke with us. When we were racing he would sit and talk to Charlie about racing for a long time. I remember he was so excited when Dominic headed to the races because they always had something to talk about the next day. Peter will now be with Charlie talking over old times. He was a great man. Will not be forgotten

Sending all my love to you and your family, Michelle.
I have many great memories of the restaurant and the Roos family. Peter treated me like one of his children and I always felt at home there, even when I had grown and moved away. My deepest sympathies to Dominic and Michelle. A parent’s death is always so hard. Please find comfort in knowing what a great man he was and how many lives he touched in such a profound way.
So sorry for your loss Dominick! Your dad and mom Edel were great people and will surely be missed by many! We lived I. The little White House beside the restaurant and Brandon my son was always at your house or with your family!! He was like a second son to your mom and dad at the time! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time!

Its hard to send condolences to just the immediate family because when you think about it, Peter had a massive extended family. He was like a father to the kids that grew up at the Schwaben either sweating it out in the kitchen or serving the tables. Too many customers to count were regulars and also became part of the family. Peter’s involvement in the community and local sports meant his life touched not just hundreds but thousands of people over the years. As a fellow alumnus of Peter’s school of hard knocks, I can testify that my life was irreversibly changed by working for him. For 8 years I not only learned the business from him but he taught me valuable life lessons that I carry with me today. Peter was a great man, not just because he was a successful entrepreneur but because he changed the lives of so many people. Not everyone would agree it was always for the better, but consider how many people he hired over the years who were able to pay bills, go through school, buy a car, go to college or university – all because of Peter and the Schwaben Inn. How many relationships were created because of the close family environment that Peter and Edel nurtured that truly represented the lifeblood of the business? How many coworkers are now married and have families of their own? What a great legacy to leave behind, Peter. Congratulations on leaving a very big mark.
I will miss Peter more than words can express. He was my boss, my mentor, a father figure and he was my friend. Rest in peace.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your loved one.
The Petrick Family.
Deepest sympathy to the family.
From the Creer’s – Peter (deceased), Marilyne, Susan and Robert.
Robert as a young lad, was a cook at the restaurant for many years and greatly respected Peter and Edel.
May God Bless the family at this time of sadness.
All that exercising and quitting the smoke probably helped but not enough. Martina Dominic and Michelle, you will miss him a lot but so will we. Our condolences to the whole family. Peter can finally rest in peace. No more struggles.
JoAnn, I and our family enjoyed countless wonderful meals at Peter’s famous eatery over the past 30+ years. He rarely missed chatting with us when we came in to dine. One of the highlights was celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary at the Schwaben Inn.
Peter we will truly miss you!! Our prayers and sympathies go out to all your family. We will remember you always in our hearts. We are away and truly sorry that we cannot attend the service!

Our deepest sympathy, are thoughts and prayers are with You
Dom and Michelle,
Chris really said it all, so many of us grew up at the restaurant. We worked hard together and enjoyed each other’s company outside of work. And we had the best Christmas parties!! I loved going to Burlington Bowl (when we were too young to go to a bar) with the staff and then having a drink after work at the Air Force Club with Peter and the gang when we were old enough! So many of us really grew up there.
We watched you two grow up as well. I remember getting you ice cream, Dominic, when you were very young (and ending up with it half way up my arm in that freezer) and then years later coming for dinner with my family and having you serve me. And I was glad to have Peter as my stand in when I needed him (even though I didn’t always realize I did) and glad he contributed to the person I became.
Thank you for sharing your Dad with us. He was so special.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Martina, Dominik, and Michelle. Peter was a lot of things to a lot of people to me he was my boss for 15 years when l worked at the Schwaben Inn until he retired then it just was not the same so l left as well. He was more then a boss to me he was like a father figure and a grand father to my boys, which my oldest ended up working there to for 3 years. I remember when my youngest was born and he was 3 months old Peter asked me to come back to work and work daytime because he needed me and l said well l will have to bring Nicholas and he said thats ok. When l worked he would talk to Nicholas in German, give him bottles and pick him up when he would cry what kind of boss does that. He was a very caring person and he has touched many lives over the years. We will always remember you Peter and what you brought to our lives. Rest in Peace and god bless.
I heard about Peters death today. I´m very sad and feel with you. Sylvia
