The family is sad to announce the passing of Marie Sattler (Rehner) this morning, at her home, surrounded by family. She is predeceased by her husband John and her sister Rosina Kasper of Germany.
Marie was born on June 07, 1927, in Neider Eidisch, Romania. Married John, immigrated to Germany after WW2, had a daughter, Heidi (predeceased by her husband Glenn), in Germany, then immigrated to Dundas, Ontario, Canada in the late 1950s, where she had two sons, Dieter (Ingrid) and Gary (Jennifer).
Marie had a challenging life in her new home, learned to speak, read and write English, embraced the culture of her new home, worked hard to take care of her family, made many friends and lovingly raised three children. Once her children married and provided grandchildren Jamie, Lisa (Deepak), Emily (Myles), Kirstie, Cori (Alek), Alex (Bree), Josh (Chloe), great-grandchildren Khalen, Hayden, Shaya, Ace, Aubree, Colton, Hudson, and Carter, De’Aira, Kiari and Kairo, she was forever known as Oma.
A milestone in Oma’s life included the Great Lakes Swim Challenge undertaken at the Community Pool in Dundas. Over several years, she successfully completed swimming around the Great Lakes.
She was eternally grateful for the last 10 years of her life at her new home in Canfield, living with Gary and Jennifer, surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wanted everyone to know she felt more love during this period than any time in her life. The rest of the family sincerely thank Gary and Jenni for their sacrifice, dedication, love and care they provided to make Oma’s life in their home fulfilling and enjoyable during these years. Having the kids around her prolonged the joy in her later years.
Marie would also like to mention her birthday/phone pal, Hanna Fast. They were introduced to each other through a church outreach program and formed a lasting friendship. Although they never met in person, they spent many joyful hours sharing tales during their lengthy phone conversations.
Marie was a long-time member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hamilton.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, Ontario, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Grove Cemetery, 129 York Road, Dundas.
Please join the family at the Cattel Centre beside the funeral home after the burial.
