On December 13, 2023 we bid farewell to Alex in his 87th year. He died at home as was his wish. Son of the late Andrew and Anna, brother to the late George and Ann, beloved husband to the late Irene and father to Arlene, Donna and Daryl.
He grew up in Hamilton and moved to Binbrook with Irene to raise his family. He operated a small hobby farm with chickens, cows and a pony. Alex worked as a car mechanic at Hamilton Motor Products before becoming a welding and technical teacher at Orchard Park Secondary school. He had a calm and laid back approach to everything in life. Anyone who met him enjoyed his witty remarks and humor.
He loved warm climates and sunshine, especially in Costa Rica where he would enjoy walking the beach and stopping at a beach bar for a cerveza or rum and pepsi.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place in the spring at the Dundas Air Force club. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Hamilton food share
Thinking fondly of my experiences with Mr. G. Always kind and sarcastic. For some reason I have never forgotten the time I pulled up to see Donna and show off my new first car! getting out with pride and excitement I was greeted by Mr. G. saying , “it sounds like a sewing machine” ouch… With deepest sympathy, my thoughts are with you all knowing how greatly your dad will be missed.
I wish i had more time with my dad. There was a lady that said to cherish the time with my dad a week before he died at the wendys we were at.
He was a wonderful man. Even though I met him only once. He was on vacation with his daughter Donna, it was in Costa Rica. He was spry and on the ball and seemed to be enjoying his walk along the seaside.. He will always remain a great memory in my heart.
Uncle Alex will be greatly missed by Adrian and my sons, Joshua and Christopher and myself.
My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of your dad Alex. I first met Alex in 1976 as I was starting to teach auto mechanics at Orchard Park Secondary School and Alex had his classroom across from mine. He was also a very patient, calm and funny individual. We had many corn roast with the staff up at his farm in Binbrook. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time. May he rest in peace.
I was on the staff of Orchard Park at the same time as Alex. I remember him as a common sense guy who worked very hard to motivate his students to do their best. A great contribution to the staff with his easy going nature and great sense of humour. He was respected by both staff and students. With deepest sympathy, Hughena Matheson
Alex and I worked together for many years. We camped together with his wife Irene and son Daryl. There were many enjoyable staff corn roasts at the Binbrook farm. Jeff and Barbara send our condolences to the family.
