July 11, 1936 – December 12, 2018
Mann, Sheila Marie – It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Sheila at St. Peter’s Residence on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018. Daughter of the late Colin and Merne Mann. Devoted sister of the late Lorene (Willis) Thompson and Barry (Faye) Mann. Caring and generous Aunt of several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. Sheila loved the family farm, gardening and she was devoted to giving to others, especially those in need. She was a teacher for over 40 years, had her pilot’s licence and taught and travelled around the world. She was always eager to share her life lessons and loved to tell jokes. Sheila had many dear friends who were a big part of her life. A big thanks to Josie and also the staff at St. Peter’s Nursing Home. Donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Centre. A private celebration of life will be held in the New Year.
So sorry to hear of the passing of a former neighbor Sheila Mann. She was a very wonderful lady.
Dorothy Haley (formerly McArthur)
Sincere condolences to all of Sheila’s family. My mother (Hazel Wilkinson) and Sheila’s mother (Merne) were best friends. I am a former teacher and had interesting discussions with Sheila. I enjoyed her flower gardens and her hospitality.
So sorry to hear of Sheila’s passing. We remember her from Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterdown. Our thoughts and prayers go out other family and friends. Ann and Bob Lalonde.
I first met Sheila at the Bowman Public School seventy-five years ago. After she purchased her J-3 plane I was her first passenger and we crashed turning the plane partially over…no one hurt. Later on my father’s motor scooter Sheila was my first passenger. She leaned over too much on a sharp turn, and fell into a ditch, my leg was caught and I smashed my sacral iliac ..couldn’t sit down for months!! We had a great time together touring Europe and many other things. Sheila has always been a steadfast friend and will be greatly missed by me. I would like to wish all her friends and relatives much love to the deserving ones. Madeleine Wannop Ross Salter
Rest In Peace dear friend.

Condolences to Ms Manns family.I fondly remember her as my favorite Librarian at Gibson st school in the 70s.I will always credit here with pushing me to open a book
And for this I will be forever grateful.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Sheila while my Mom and Dad were at St. Peter’s. She was very kind to my family and I and will be missed. I hope she is finally at peace.
Miss Mann was my grade 3 teacher at Yorkview Public School in Dundas, where my mother also taught. Miss Mann was loved by all of us in the class and has always been remembered.

Family of the late Sheila Mann;
Sheila was a delightful lady. Very kind and soft spoken. I will remember her fondly. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
I am thankful to have had a visit with my buddy from 4 Wing in September. Sheila was the heart of kindness and very proud of her family – and her fall crocuses! Mary Hodder Elderkin
Sheila and I enjoyed sharing stories about growing up on a farm on Number Five Highway. I miss our phone calls when we worked together to complete the daily cross word puzzle. I send my condolences to all Mann family members whose genealogy is interwoven with so many of the other families in the Rock Chapel area.
No longer encumbered, Sheila is dancing the skies on laughter-silvered wings.

Sheila and I were teacher-librarians for the Hamilton Bd. of Ed. during the same years. I also have memories of Sheila from our times together as members of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honourary organization for women educators. Sheila was a charter member of Ontario RHO Chapter and she devoted and contributed much in the formative years of this group. I remember picking up Sheila one December to go to a meeting. She had just finished making her 32nd batch of shortbread to be given as Christmas gifts to some lucky people. Always thoughtful and gracious with such a delightful sense of humour, I feel blessed to have known her.
This is for the family of Sheila Mann, particularly Colin and Sara Mann, I think that I may have told you this before. Your Aunt was my grade three teacher at Yorkview School. Miss Mann was an excellent teacher and grade three was a totally good year. In grade four, I was sick with mono from April through to the end of the year and she came to visit and brought me a Cherry Ames book. Cherry Ames was a series of fictional books about different kinds of nurses. Following her visit, I ended up reading the whole series. When Bill and I were married, we went to an outdoor reunion, somewhere in the community and I was able to chat with her again after so many years. I will never forget her.

Sheila was one of my oldest friends. We met at Waterdown High School in the fifties. We called our clique the Four Fabulous Fatties. In this group: Sheila, Doreen Davis, Sybil Lyons and myself Ruth Granby. Sheila was at least two years younger then rest and probably the slimmest. She went on to do great thing with her life and I admired her adventurous spirit and will pray for the repose of her soul.
Our condolences to Sheila’s family, so sorry to hear of her passing. She was always a wonderful neighbor and will be dearly missed.
I was saddened to hear of Sheila’s passing. She was my grade 2 teacher, and also taught a teacher-librarian course that I took one summer. It was there that we re-connected. From Sheila, I learned how to properly prepare to read a picture book aloud to my students. I recall a year-end class trip to the farm, where our grade 2 class enjoyed a hay ride, tour, and lemonade and goodies.
Sheila was kind enough to come to the celebration of life when my father passed away. I was surprised and pleased to see her. I will always remember her fondly, as a person who made a difference in my life.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
Rest in piece Sheila it was a pleasure to have met you, it was my pleasure to be able to take you to your appointments even though it was only for a short time, I will miss getting off work early to be able to get to these appointments on time. you were a very interesting lady to talk too
On behalf of Alpha Delta Kappa Rho, I would like to extend our sincere sympathy, in the recent loss of Sheila. Senior members of this women educators’ group will recall Sheila’s active participation, her sense of humour, and her delicious treats, as well as her hospitality, when she hosted a meeting in her home, on Sydenham Rd. Sheila had a very giving nature and we remember how she cared for her brother Barry. This was when she resigned from ADK.
As “country neighbours”, we remember Barry and Sheila. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.
One month today my friend past away, Sheila I will always carry you in my heart.
I miss you my friend, but I can always reflect on the wonderful memories we shared.
I know now you have become the light of peace and goodness, I am immensely happy for you.
With Love Josephine
My mom Patricia allways spoke very highly of Sheila. They loved humour and gardening as shared enjoyements.
