Hayward, Alan Keith – Peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Loved always by Maureen, his wife of 47 years, his son Neil, daughters Alexandra, Hannah, Maria and Vanessa and his 5 grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers John and Eric. Alan was a member of the Royal Military Police for 22 years and the Manager of Security at Mohawk College for years. A special thank you to the staff at the Juravinski Hospital (Chemo Unit) and to Dr.’s Ellis and McMillan for their care and compassion for the past years. In keeping with Alan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Service will be held with family. A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at the Winchester Arms, 120 King Street West, Dundas on Monday, September 18 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alan Hayward bursary at Mohawk College would be appreciated by the family.
Alan was a much loved co-worker and I treasure my memories of working together on student issues. My sighting of a frog, to this day, brings back his expression, ‘Madder than a box of frogs’, often prompted by some behaviour which he had to deal. Rest well, my friend.
Alan was an absolute joy to work with, and would brighten everyone’s day in the human resources department when he came and rang our service bell (over and over!). He loved what he did at the college, and was enormously respected by staff and students alike. I have some wonderful memories that I will treasure. My heart goes out to Maureen, Hannah and the rest of the family. Heaven has a new, quite characterful angel!
My thoughts are with Maureen and family on the loss of Alan. He always had a joke, a smirk and smile. His part in Remembrance Day is something I will never forget….he always gave us something more to think about and be thankful for.

Alan was a wonderful man, co-worker and friend. He made me feel safe and I knew I could call on him at any time and he would be there in a flash. We shared many laughs together and I will miss him for all that he was.
It was such a pleasure to work with Alan and I will always remember his smile. Alan had a keen sense of humour and could bring out the best in anyone! He made Mohawk a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with Maureen, Hannah and the rest of the family.
The photograph in the Spec grabbed my attention, because I immediately recognized the RMP cap .. which I proudly wore during my service in the Corps – a long time ago. My memory being what it is, I can’t say I knew Alan – but it is nevertheless always sad to hear of another veteran’s passing. Rest in Peace …
Whilst i do not recall serving with Alan I spent 25 years in the Royal Military Police and would like to send my condolences to his wife Maureen and family for their loss. Exemplo Ducemus. Rest in Eternal Peace Brother Redcap.
My sincerest sympathy to the entire Hayward family. I am saddened to learn of Alan’s passing. He was a true inspiration and role model for all who worked with/for him at Mohawk College. I will never forget the many conversations he and I had, or his red cap he proudly had on display in his office for all to see. It was an honour and privilege to work for Alan. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the family. Alan Hayward was my squad instructor in 1972. He was a wonderful man who was strict but fair. I will always remember him especially when a cat crossed the parade square and he shouted for it to be put under close arrest.

To Maureen and the family I am truely saddened by this news. I had The pleasure of working with Alan for many years and in that time he was a great mentor and surrogate father since they were so similar.
Our tea chats were always appreciated and his quick wit and unique sense of humour was always appreciated. He ruled with a iron fist and was not everyone’s cup of tea but I will miss him.

My sincere sympathy to Maureen and family. It was a real pleasure to work with Alan over the years at Mohawk College, and more recently have the occasional chat at Juravinski hospital. Alan was one of a kind, always quick with a wry observation and colourful humour, and a well respected College foundation who took great pride in his work.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the Hayward Family. I worked alongside Alan at Remax in Waterdown in the 90’s. Alan was a good friend who was there for anyone who needed a hand with anything, or just a good laugh at life in general. I am so sorry he has left us.

A thoughtful and caring man. Dedicated to serving others. Firm but fair. Those are the words that I would use to describe Alan Hayward who I got to know through my years as a faculty member at Mohawk College. Once you broke through Alan’s protective outer shell, you realized what a treasure of a man that he really was. My sincere condolences to his family. Until we meet again.
My heartfelt condolences to Maureen, family and a wide circle of friends who loved him. I hold close many memories of times with Alan, including working closely together over many years at Mohawk College. We forged a bond and Alan became a much loved friend. Alan was a man who would be there when you need him in, who had a great appreciation for life, as well as a wonderful sense of humour. I will miss him greatly while remembering him with a smile and love in my heart. May you rest in peace my friend.
I miss his response to my daily question, “How are you Alan?”. With a twinkle in his eye, a sassy grin on his face, the response…. “Unbelievable”.
Alan could always be counted on to support staff and students in a fair, respectful manner. We will not see his likes again.

So sorry to hear of Alan’s passing. We served together in 20 Armd Bde in Detmold Germany in the late 1960s. He was the senior single Corporal given the job of keeping of keeping the younger element of the unmarried RMP under control. That’s not to say that he did not get upto mischief himself. After Detmold we never served together again but it goes some way to explaining his presence that I can recall it even after nearly 50 years. Rest in Peace comrade and my sincerest condolences to your loving family.
