Drury (nee Abbey), (Marilyn) Joan – Peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of her family, (Marilyn) Joan Drury passed away in her 84th year, on September 15, 2015. Beloved wife for 59 years of Douglas Drury, whose death preceded her own by exactly two months to the day. Loving mother of Kathryn Drury, David Drury (Cathy), and Jim Drury (Sheila). Grandmother to Meaghan, Alison, Spencer, Carolyn, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Hilary, Erin, Turner, and Clare. She will be forever remembered by her sister, Susan Abbey Sherman, her brother, Jim Abbey (Bette), her brother-in-law, Bill Drury (Betty), and sister-in-law Jean Wilson (Roger). Joan will be especially missed by lifelong friends Joan Luchak and Marilyn McKeeman. Joan truly enjoyed her time as Executive Director of the McNab Street YWCA in Hamilton and later as a dedicated employee at the Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA). She spent time in her retirement volunteering with the DVSA Annual Art Auction and helping out at St. Mark’s United Church. Special thanks to Ali and Tyler, Joan’s nurses, and all of the wonderful, kind staff at St. Peter’s Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a funeral service in honour of Joan at St. Mark’s United Church, 1 Lynndale Drive, Dundas, ON at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 19. Valvasori, Julie Helen Gertrude – It is with deepest sadness that we announce that Julie passed away unexpectedly and way too early on Wed. Sept. 2, 2015. She will always be lovingly remembered by her daughter Milly (Camille), father Jim, brother Jimmy, God-child/nephew big Kyle, nephew little Kyle, nieces Amanda and Samantha, dear friends David, Joan and Jaclyn and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by her mother Joyce. Special thanks for the loving care from the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital. There will be a service on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Cattel, Eaton and Chambers, 53 Main St. Dundas, followed by a celebration of her life from 2 – 5 p.m. at the AIR FORCE CLUB. David Barnes was called home in the early morning of August 25, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Barnes and father of Angela Barnes (the late John Turcsanyi), Faith Barnes-Lane (Malcolm Lane) and Dr. Claire Barnes (Dr. Ifty Nizami), cherished grandfather of Alexa Barkley (Scott), Stephen Turcsanyi, Julie Turcsanyi and Christian Lane, and great-grandfather of Kaitlyn, Sophie and Cameron Barkley. His passing has left a big hole in our lives. A bombardier in the RCAF’s Bison Squadron during WWII, he was the last surviving child of the late Rev. A. A. Barnes and Adella Davidson, having been predeceased by his elder brother just 11 days ago. A celebration of David’s life will be held on Sunday, August 30th at Dundas Baptist Church, 201 Governor’s Rd. Dundas, at 2:00 pm, a church he attended faithfully for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dundas Baptist Church or to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton. Many thanks to the staff at Extendicare Hamilton for all their care and support.

With sadness we announce that Beverley peacefully passed away on August 25, 2015 at the Wentworth Lodge where she had been lovingly cared for. She leaves Ivan, her best friend and husband of 53 years, her son Jeffrey and sister-in-law Sara Lawrence (Ron), her brother Herb (Jane), nephews and cousins. Bev was born in Montreal, Quebec. The family moved to Granby before moving to Hamilton in her teen years. She graduated from Westdale Secondary School and worked in the office of Burlington Steel before her marriage to Ivan. She was a stay at home mom where she honed her domestic skills. With Ivan she was a past member of the Dundas Golf & Curling Club. She enjoyed both curling and golf. Beverley was an active member of the Dundas Garden Club and Ikabona Society. She will be missed by the members and especially her good friend Ruth Watson. In later years, Beverley assisted Ivan in his Podiatry practice in Hamilton and Oakville. They enjoyed entertaining their many friends in their home and cottage at Southampton where she also volunteered at the Southampton hospital and taught line dancing at the Community Centre. She was predeceased by her son Christopher Paul, her parents Bert and Thelma (Gagnon) Lock and in laws Francesca and Aladino Bucci. Our thanks to the staff at Wentworth Lodge (Maple Lane Section) and Dr. Scott Nash for their exceptional care. There will be a Funeral Mass at ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas on Saturday August 29, at 10 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Holy Sepulchre at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wentworth Lodge, Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Church Hall after the service.

Bull, James “Jim” Arthur – Today is a sad day as we are forced to say goodbye to a great man. On the night of August 19th, Jim passed away after a three week battle after being overwhelmed by a post-surgery infection. Jim fought this with his characteristic grace and integrity and in the final moments listened to the words of Robert Service’s “The Cremation of Sam McGee”- a poem he had committed to memory read to him by his son Alexander. He leaves behind his partner in love, life and adventures, Frances, his immediate family who include his daughter-in-law Nicole, his sister Barbara/Lorne, his brother Robert/Marilyn and many nieces and nephews. His extended family included many close friends in the Greater Hamilton community and abroad. This includes, but is certainly not limited to, schoolmates and reformed trouble makers from McMaster University, Canada’s best and brightest from the Canada Center for Inland Waters, mad-men with brooms at the Granite Curling club in Dundas and finally the welcoming and graceful crew of the championship winning sailboat “Subito”.
Those who had the good fortune to know and love Jim should take comfort that he parted on his own terms and be assured that when we all meet him again, he’ll have your favorite drink ready, the BBQ fired up, and some random renovation project partially completed.
As per his wishes, Jim will be cremated and laid to rest with a park view. While he was far too modest for any form of self-congratulations, there are plans in the works for a celebration of his life. This is tentatively scheduled for late September at a venue in the Hamilton area. Please reach out to the family via e-mail and we’ll get you the specifics.

Herbison, Rev. Donald (March 20,1926)…Peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Monday August 17th at St.Joseph’s Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Muriel (Brubacher) of 63 years. Loving father of sons David (Sandy), Paul (Jan), Timothy (Sue); daughter Ruth Ann (Barry Sigurdson); Proud grandfather of Adam, Charity(Brian), Dan(Yvonne), Emily, Joshua, Caleb, Kiersten, Josiah, Elijah .Special great grandfather to Malachi, Zachary, and Abby. Predeceased by his parents Rev. James C. and Elizabeth Herbison; deceased brother Archie; deceased sister Margaret(Marvin) Smith. Rev. Herbison will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, June Herbison, his nieces and nephews, church friends & by those he has ministered to over the years in Sutton, Erin & Ospringe, Erskine Church, Hamilton and Knox Church, Dundas (Minister of Visitation in retirement). Serving 35 years as Clerk of Presbytery in the Brampton & Hamilton areas. Northey, Mona – Sadly we announce the passing of our beloved Mona at the Bob Kemp Hospice on August 19 at the age of 73 following a 15 year struggle with breast cancer . A true lady to the end, she gave freely of her love to all of her family and friends. She will be forever missed by her loving husband of 53 years, Edward and her handsome sons, Michael (Shauntea) and Bradley (Melissa)and her two cherished grandsons, Jake and Joel. She is survived by her mother, Simone Carriere (age 95) and two sisters, Eva Wood and Diane Carriere. Predeceased by her father, Lionel Carriere; sister, Jeannette; and brother, Ron.She will be missed by her beloved FOPS, her neighbours and remembered by her many nieces and nephews and many vacation, bridge and craft friends throughout the world. Mona retired from Hamilton Health Sciences after 20 years. After retirement she learned to quilt at the Quilt Rack (affectionately known as Lucy’s) and spent her winters in Mexico with her husband, Ed. We express a heartfelt thank you to Drs. Tozer and Gudelis at Juravinski Cancer Centre for their confident care over the years and the wonderful caring nurses in the Chemo Dept. there. A special thank you to Dr. Michael West who was always there for her. Suddenly at St. Peter’s Hospital on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Donald (2013). Cherished mother of Edward (Suzanne), Larrie (Valerie), John, Patrick (Dianne), Michael (Linda) and Paul (Janet). Gertrude is survived by her brothers John and George and sister Patricia and was predeceased by her sister Viola. Loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Friends will be received by the family on Friday afternoon and evening from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, where a Funeral Service for Gertrude will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 10 am.
