It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Howard Shaw, who left us on November 3rd, 2024 at the age of 67. He was a resident of Dundas and will be remembered for his love of curling and also ice making. It brought him joy for people to curl on the ice that he made.
Born on September 2nd, 1957, Robert was known for his love of cars, camping, and had a long time involvement in Scouting Canada. Robert is survived by his three children Carolyn Shaw (Abraham Klein), Hilary Shaw, and Turner Shaw (Janel Cain). Predeceased by his father Clarence “Dude” Shaw. Survived by his mother Alice (Shaw) Black (nee Job), and three siblings Jane Charles, Ren Shaw, and David Shaw. He will also be remembered by his niece Christine Charles (Vinod Rajasekaran), nephew Richard Shaw, and great niece and nephew Simi and Sachin, who will remember him fondly.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on November 9th 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ’s Church Cathedral, 252 James St. North, Hamilton. All are welcome to join us in remembering Robert Shaw and the moments we shared. Limited parking at the rear of the church.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Kelly Jean Lewington ( nee Rogers) on October 30th in her 64th year.
Kelly passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Kelly was a loving wife, mother and sister. Predeceased by her parents Lynn and John Rogers. Kelly leaves behind her beloved husband, Christopher Lewington, of 42 years, her adoring sons Adam (Ashley), Steve and loving brother Edward Rogers, as well as her cherished extended family including several nieces and nephews.
Kelly’s warmth and kindness extended beyond her family to her close friendships, which she treasured throughout her life. Known for her unwavering support, she touched the lives of many friends over the decades, always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. These friendships brought her immense joy and were a source of strength and laughter through the years.
Her greatest pride and accomplishment was being a mother. She loved her sons, Adam and Steve, with a boundless, selfless heart, and cherished every moment shared with them. Kelly will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will remember her as a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her selfless spirit and infectious smile inspired countless memories and left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tom Traver on Saturday, October 26, 2024 in his 67th year. Bravely battling cancer until the very end with the love of his life of 45 years , Sue, by his side. Tom was very proud of his children, Tyson (Brittani) and Brittney (Bryan). Beloved son of the late Anne Lesnick and cherished brother to Steve and Karen. Fun uncle to many nieces and nephews. Tom will be sadly missed by the family pet and best friend, Riley.
Tom was the best Papa to Bryson, Brady and Colton. He loved teaching them how to golf, spending many evenings hitting golf balls out back and taking them to his favourite golf course. Papa enjoyed watching them play sports (hockey and soccer), never missing a game. He enjoyed spending time with the boys playing games such as chess, monopoly and cards.
Tom was a proud carpenter for over 40 years, with two dedicated employees (Jay & Clayton). Tom was known well in the community for his passion, hard work and attention to detail.
Tom was an avid golfer, spending many summer evenings at Flamborough Hills with his golfing buddy Adrian.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nursing and medical staff of Unit C7 at the Brantford General Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Centre whose exceptional care and support were a great comfort. Sue, Tyson and Brittney would also like to thank family, friends and neighbours who helped Tom through his fight.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, in Dundas.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Margery McNamara (nee Murphy), aged 97. Though she will be missed, we are relieved that our sweet and loving mother is finally at peace.
Our beautiful mother/grandmother was born in Hamilton on March 29, 1927, married Wallace McNamara in 1951, and raised six children on Mud Street, near Albion Falls. Her children include Terence; Brian (Melanie); Gary; Shawn (Margaret); Mary-Ellen (John) and Kathleen (Joseph). Grandchildren include Annika (Sebastian); Sarah; Marina; Liam and Quinlan. Great-grandchildren include twins Hanna and Isabell; and Elisa.
Mom’s greatest joy was being a mother to her children and to everyone she met who needed a little mothering. Ever optimistic and caring, she had a smile for all. Her fondest memories were of growing up on Hamilton’s bayfront, playing among the boats and going canoeing with her dad at Princess Point. She had the best stories and could make us all laugh!
We are grateful to the kind and caring staff at Macassa Lodge who always went above and beyond to keep mom comfortable.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington, where she will rest with her parents Francis and Nellie Murphy.

Sharon Harriet Cooper (née Dukes) – “Grammy” has gone to be with “Grampy”. Sharon was born December 26, 1943, in Wynyard, Saskatchewan and left us peacefully on October 15, 2024, in Hamilton General Hospital from pneumonia, following a massive stroke, following a partial hip replacement, following an unfortunate fall. Otherwise, Sharon had a great final year: 80th birthday bash in December, Graceland trip in June, gorgeous cottage week in Bala with family in July, and many great visits recently. Sharon’s legacy is her children, Heather (Andrea) and Scot (Monica), and most beloved grandchildren, Grace and Ben. Grammy’s favourite movie was The Lion King as she watched it so many times with the grandkids. She is predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Lowell in 2021, her parents, Freda and Ted, and her siblings, Bob, Susan, and Debbie. Sharon lived most of her life in Lynden and working at Amann Appliances. She will be remembered for her enormous love of Line Dancing, playing back catcher for the Lynden Ladies Oldtimers, being secretary for Lynden United Church, many, many cats and dogs, her pink hat when swimming, looking after so many during their health challenges, the Thumbs-Up emoji, and Singapore Slings. Special thanks to the staff at The Georgian in Dundas, which was Sharon’s community these past 5 years, as well as the wonderful caregivers in the stroke ward at the General. In lieu of flower, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada are appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held November 2nd from 1 till 4 pm at Copetown Community Centre, 1950 Governors Road, Dundas, just up the road from Sharon’s childhood home. Lunch will be served at 1 followed by Memories of Sharon. Please feel free to dress colourfully, as Sharon usually did, and be prepared to sing “You Are My Sunshine”.
