Passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas, Ontario on January 22, 2022 at 105 years young. Beloved mother of Lloyd (deceased), Marilyn Ilnisky, Wayne (deceased), Carl (deceased), Harvey and Barry. Grandmother to 10, great-grandmother to 24 and great-great-grandmother to 1 . Helen was a devoted mother and member of West Flamborough Presbyterian Church. May she rest in peace. Passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2022 after a courageous journey with ALS, (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Brian was born on September 15, 1957 and spent his childhood on the Toronto Island (Wards Island), later residing in the Upper Beaches area of Toronto where he and his wife raised their family. Son of the late Olive and Stewart Search. Loving husband of Suzanne (nee O’Neill) Search. Devoted father to Kristen Armstrong (Cole) of Toronto, ON and Carolyn Brander (Will) of Norval, ON. Loving grandfather to Benson Brander and James Armstrong. Brian is fondly remembered by all of his loving cousins. He had a close-knit circle of lifelong friends who rallied around him during his illness. Brian retired from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in 2012 after a career of dedicated service. Brian’s kindness, humor and caring nature will be missed by all whom he touched and influenced throughout his lifetime. Cremation has taken place. There will be no service at this time. Peter, (a.k.a. the Duke of Dundas) passed away recently with family by his side at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, the town he loved. Peter was the loving husband of Gail (nee Smith), proud father of Camille, Darren (Heidi), Troy (Lonie), Corey Smith (Carolina) and David Smith (Laura), grandfather of Rachel, Nicole, Evelyn and Arthur, and great-grandfather of Serenity, brother of Robert (Ken), Larry (Vicki), Don (Paulette), and uncle to their children. He was born and worked in Hamilton at Stelco for most of his life and enjoyed darts, curling, baseball, golfing and playing poker with his poker buddies. The Lord, in His infinite wisdom, has taken unto Himself our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Friday, January 21, 2022 in her 89th year, after a short illness. Dear wife of Peter Vanden Berg for 66 years. Cherished mother of Glenda and Harry Piersma, Audrey and Jacob Van Wyck, Jeffrey Vanden Berg, Douglas and Irene Vanden Berg, Peter and Lydia Vanden Berg, Gary and Elizabeth Vanden Berg, and David and Anneke Vanden Berg. Loving grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A loving sister to the late Kathleen Hamstra, the late Jacob and Grace Hamstra, the late Rev. Gerald and Theresa Hamstra, the late Ralph and Jeanette Haalstra, Peter and the late Audrey Hamstra, Lysbeth and Alan White, and Annie and Peter Thomas. A loving sister-in-law to the late Bas and Tina Vanden Berg, the late Arie Vanden Berg and his wife Jannie, Jack and Mary Vanden Berg, the late Bart Vanden Berg and his wife Agnes, Dick and Irene Vanden Berg, and Tiny and the late Bernhard Van Gorsel. Visitation on Monday, January 24th from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at EBENEZER FREE REFORMED CHURCH, 253 Weirs Lane, where the Service for Wendy will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bonisa Mission, Trinitarian Bible Society, or Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.
Peacefully and with his family around him, Tony passed at Margaret’s Place Hospice on January 17th, 2022 and is now with our Risen Lord.
Tony will be dearly missed by his loving wife Carol of 52 years. He was blessed with five children, Beth (Greg Belshaw), Tom (Rosanna), Maria (Adam Borczyk), Pete (Amanda) and Patrick (Jess). Tony was the treasured grandfather of Callum, Colin, Adrienne, Josephine, Johannah, Chelsea, Connor, Dylan, Haley, Landon and Jacob, who brought him immense joy.
Tony was born in Eccles, England to the late Carl and Maria Kerigan. Tony attended the London Hospital Medical School where he played rugby and met his sweetheart Carol. They were married in Albany, New York in 1969 and moved to Hamilton in 1971 where he completed his residency in internal medicine at McMaster University. Tony was on the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital for more than 40 years. Tony’s love for learning led him to additional training in respirology, care for the elderly, and palliative care. In retirement, Tony provided palliative care to patients in the community and at Emmanuel House. Tony will be remembered for his dedication and compassion for his patients as well as his enthusiastic and gentle mentorship of medical students and residents.
Tony was a founding member of the Catholic Physicians Guild of Hamilton. He was a volunteer at L’Arche and at YMCA Camp Wanakita in Haliburton in the medical centre. Tony, along with Carol, enjoyed many years of teaching marriage preparation courses. He enjoyed dragon boating with Lively Dragon, being in nature, walking, hiking, singing with Carol while she played the ukulele, and spending time with his grandkids.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Cecilia Hughes, twin sister Pat Kyrou (Andreas deceased) and brother Shaun Kerigan (Angela) and his nieces and nephews in England as well as his brother-in-law, Brother William Martin, FSC in Lincoft, New Jersey.
Tony’s family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Anne Boyle, Dr. Gordon Okawara, Dr. Samantha Winemaker, Julia Rock NP, Dr. Linou Zou, Dr. Jill Rudkowski, the clinical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the palliative care community team, and the staff and volunteers at Margaret’s Place Hospice for their compassionate care and support for Tony and the family throughout his illness and last days.
Visitation will be held at Turner Funeral Home, 53 Main Street in Dundas on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Augustine’s Church, 58 Sydenham Street in Dundas on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. and will be livestreamed. Interment to follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. Please wear bright colours if you wish! Respecting the restrictions of COVID-19, all guests must RSVP at https://signup.com/go/xsknWoJ on Tony’s obituary on the funeral home website for the visitation and provide proof of vaccination at the door. As there will be young grandchildren and elderly at the funeral, we request that attendees are fully vaccinated and masked. Tony’s family will host a celebration of life reception at a later time.
