On Tuesday, May 10th in his 96th year Ted conceded to Queen Elizabeth in the race for longevity and slept his last sleep.
Born in Vassar, Hungary Ted fled to Canada in 1956 where he met Win, who, for the next 55 years was his wife, finder of many things, dance and travel partner, voice of reason and of course co-gardener.
Ted’s perseverance, sense of humor and imposing size were passed on to his children Ica (Ferenc), Mike (Jen) and Emma (Mike).
Ted was always proud of his grandchildren and showed his love for Tomas, Gabriella, Matthew, Liliana, Michael and Joshua in many unique ways.
Remembered for his somewhat truthful storytelling (on repeat at times), his unfailing work ethic, his willingness to help family and friends (whether wanted or not), sense of adventure and his love of gardening, he left a lasting impression on most people he encountered.
As per Ted’s wish, cremation has taken place and a ceremony and Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W. Dundas, Ontario where the event will be live streamed as well.
In Lieu of flowers a charitable donation to the St. Paul’s Benevolent Fund or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Win & Family, I am so very sorry about the loss of Ted. Such a fun photo and beautiful tribute published! Please know I am thinking of you as you celebrate Ted’s life on June 4th and in the sad days ahead…
With love & in sympathy,
Liz Reeves (from your St. Paul’s family)
My deepest sympathy to Win and her family.
Sorry for your loss, Mike and Jen. Ted was always a friendly presence at the rink and its hard to recall Matty’s hockey games without also picturing Ted standing at the railing and cheering the kids on.
Dear Win and family,
So sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. May he rest in peace and may your memories bring you comfort.
I will always remember him when I see fresh garlic (or braided garlic!) and of course for the treehouse story (how could I forget!).
With deepest condolences.
Win,
It was a lovely service yesterday celebrating Ted’s life. What an interesting man you married!
God’s comfort as you adjust to life without him.
Jenny
