June 25, 1929 – August 18, 2024
The family is saddened to acknowledge the death of Charles “Chuck” William Scott on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, ON, in his 95th year. Devoted husband of Phyllis Ella Irene (Thompson) since 1959 now deceased (January 7th, 2022).
Much loved father of daughters, Janice Scott, Julie Tennant, son, Drew Scott and his wife Heather and grandpa to special grandson Isaac Tennant.
Brother of Marian Marie McKeown, Burnaby, BC (deceased 2019).
Chuck’s career as teacher and principal with the Hamilton Board of Education spanned 37 years, retiring from Hess Street School in 1988. He immediately took up curling at the Dundas Granite Curling Club and progressed to participation in local bonspiels. Chuck and Phyllis were very active after retirement being members at Sackville Hill Seniors and the Hamilton Tartan Social Club. He and Phyllis also began dance lessons in a variety of genres including ballroom, round dancing, line dancing, square dancing, sequence dancing, Scottish country and contra dancing. Although Chuck and Phyllis loved to dance, Chuck always laughed and said he was “the master of none”.
Chuck and Phyllis were long-time members of Ryerson United Church, Ancaster and Chuck volunteered at Wesley Urban Ministries (W.U.M.) for a number of years. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation to W.U.M. or The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life for both Charles and Phyllis to be held at Ryerson United Church, Ancaster on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow in the Fireside room.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
**A memoriam for Phyllis is being held in conjunction with her husband, Chuck, as services were limited in January, 2022 due to Covid. The family has invited anyone who wishes to join them for the Celebration of Life and the Fireside Room following for fellowship, memories and light refreshments.**

My deepest condolences to the Scott family. Chuck had such a wonderful, open to anyone, down-to-earth way of receiving people. An easy going, great guy to the core. I already miss our many after-service coffee get togethers at Tim Hortons. Chuck’s weekly presence at Ryerson United Church and everything that went with it will be sorely missed. I was lucky to know him both as a fellow church member and friend.
Again, my deepest condolences to the Scott family at this difficult time.
What a lovely, warm and caring couple Chuck and Phyllis were! I got to know them very well in my line dance classes over the years at Sackville Seniors’ Centre. I’ll never forget Chuck always wanting to line dance to a waltz. He loved it and everyone enjoyed it with him. His smile never left his face!
Both he and Phyllis always attended my classes as much as they could, despite health concerns.
I also remember attending their 50th wedding anniversary at the Tartan Club and meeting their wonderful family.
Please accept my sincerest and deepest condolences in their passing. It is truly a great loss.
I regret that I will not be able to attend the Celebration of Life for these two very special people. Just know that they are in my thoughts and I will always remember them in my heart. I wish the very best for the Scott family in the future as you go forward in life without them.
Love and best wishes, Carol Anne McCarthy.
