September 19, 1929 – September 5, 2018
Virginia left us peacefully at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. Virginia was well loved by her daughter, Patricia MacLeod, and her husband David, her son, Thomas Bontje, and his wife Clara, and four terrific grandsons, Christopher MacLeod with his wife Philippa, Jeffrey MacLeod and Jacquelyn, Justin Bontje, Matthew Bontje and Molly. She also leaves her brother Donald Stevenson. Virginia was predeceased by husbands Alfred Hanley and Henry Bontje.
Virginia grew up in Kingston and then spent more than sixty years in London. Five and a half years ago, she moved to Amica at Dundas and enjoyed this community.
A service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Saturday, November 10th at 1:00 pm with visitation one hour before the service, reception to follow.
Donations in Virginia’s memory to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation in Hamilton will be appreciated. The hospital’s care of Virginia was exceptional.

Grunthal, Frederika “Rika” (nee Van der Mey) – Passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas, on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in her 80th year. Wife of 60 years to Edgar Grunthal, loving mother of Paul, mother-in-law to Lara, and proud Oma of Emily and Montgomery. Eldest sister to the Late Mary (Jerry Bos), Helena (Ton), Cobie (Ralph Skinner), Jack Van der Mey, Edith (Jim Neil) and Nel Van der Mey. Sister-in-law of Evelyn Van der Mey. With her family, she immigrated to Canada in 1953. Rika talked little about the war but always attended Remembrance Day ceremonies to give thanks to those that gave their lives to liberate her homeland. She was a proud Canadian. At the age of 20 she married Ed and settled down in Hamilton to raise a family. Rika, Ed and Paul later moved to Dundas and took full advantage of the town’s hiking trails and conservation areas. Rika is lovingly remembered as an avid gardener, past president of the Hamilton Holland Club, lifeguard and swimming instructor, volunteer at citizenship ceremonies for Immigration and Citizenship Canada, enthusiastic naturalist and traveller, and Dutch Hindeloopen folk art instructor. Special thanks to Dr. Boyd and the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Suddenly the Lord took unto himself Trudy Taylor (Turkstra) nee DeBoer on Saturday October 27, 2018 in her 95th year. Predeceased by her parents Rem and Roelof DeBoer, her husbands Wilfred Turkstra (1968) and Lynn Taylor (2000); brothers Bud DeBoer and Jerry DeBoer and sisters Margaret Palmer and Jean DeYoung. She was very proud of her five children Rick (Ann) Turkstra, Ron (Elaine) Turkstra, Bev (Jerry) Boschman, Bryan (Jill) Turkstra and Sherri (Tom) Blok. Special gramma to her twenty grandchildren Melissa Turkstra, Heather Barnes, Christopher Turkstra, Nicole Gibson, Mark Turkstra, Paul Turkstra, Andrew Turkstra, Ian Turkstra, Marisa Arnold, Steve Boschman, Cindy Harrison, Lindsay Riddell, Matthew Boschman, Brett Turkstra, Jaisa Turkstra , Brooke Turkstra, Kayla Blok, Sheldon Blok, Adrienne Blok, and Kevin Blok. She also had twenty-six marvelous great-grandchildren plus two more any day now. Survived by her sister-in-law Phylis DeBoer and Tom & Jane Van Zuiden. Trudy had a special fondness for her step-daughter Patti Taylor. Many thanks to the wonderful care she received from the staff at Wentworth Lodge and the special care from the emergency staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Tuesday October 30th from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W., Dundas, on Wednesday October 31st at 11:00a.m.. Lehmann, James (Jim) – passed away peacefully on October 13, 2018 at the age of 79 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a graduate of the University of Waterloo, class of ’65 , in Mechanical Engineering. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years Loretta (Booth). Son of the late Albert and Collette (Huber) Lehmann. Predeceased by his brother George (2014). Survived by his sister Mary (Garry) Leveck and sister-in-law Julianne. He will be missed by in-laws Roger and Bonnie Booth, Barbara and David Smye, Rosemary and Aaron Almas, and Warren Booth and Lorraine Dargavel as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will held at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Thursday, October 18th from 11:00 until the time of Jim’s Service at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson Society, Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated.

She never lost a fight, not with marauding bears, mad trappers or the few unfortunate individuals who, over her 86-plus years, foolishly made the mistake of underestimating her.
And through it all she laughed, not a demure, mouth-behind-your-hand laugh, but the kind of full-throated, near hysterical roar that caused restaurant diners to turn their heads and involuntarily smile.
Rita Robbins was a force of nature. We can’t say with absolute certainty, but she may have been the reason that giant storms were once only named after women.
But Hurricane Rita has passed.
She took her leave at Wentworth Lodge on Oct. 1, almost eight years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a disease that incapacitated her but never diminished her. She was there to the end, her laugh, her frequently salty language, her confidence that she should be the centre of attention in whatever room she was in.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Hector Robbins, in 2004.
She is survived by her two sons, Grant Robbins (Linda) of Nipigon, Ontario, and Dana Robbins (Catherine) of Hamilton, five grandchildren (Clinton, Brandy, Dana, Nicola and Jacob) and seven great grandchildren (Aydin, Charlotte, Wyatt, Ellie, Nathan, Jaxson and Sawyer.)
Our family feels such gratitude to the team at Wentworth Lodge, Dr. Scott Nash, the nurses, the support workers, the recreational, cleaning and custodial staff. If there are angels on earth, they are probably working at Wentworth Lodge.
A service celebrating Rita’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 5 at 11.30 a.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.

Smith, Robert Leroy “Bob” – Passed away peacefully with family at his side at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas on Thursday, September 27, 2018, formerly of Brantford, Cambridge and St. Thomas. Predeceased by his beloved wife Marilyn (2012). Dearly loved and missed by daughter Penny and husband Steve Garrison; granddaughter Janelle (Kyle Dore); great-granddaughter Ella Jane; siblings Marion (Craig Otto), Barb (Bob Cox), Art (Vonna); sisters-in-law Shirley Smith, Patricia (Richard Atkinson) and Betty Beaudry. Predeceased by parents Herman and Helen; brother Lee and sister Shirley (Alf Robertson). Bob lived his life with joy. He had the gift of gab and easily struck up a conversation with friend and stranger. Through his life Bob was a community builder and friend to all. Bob cherished his time spent with family and friends at his Haliburton Sunrise Cottage. He was an avid fisherman, putterer and handyman extraordinaire and most recently bingo caller. Bob was a long time employee of Massey-Ferguson and throughout his life he was an active member of several faith communities and most recently he found a home at Knox Presbyterian Church, Dundas. Special thanks to the staff at Wentworth Lodge for the care and compassion Bob received. Friends will be received by the family on Sunday afternoon from 3 – 6 p.m. at Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas. Bob’s Service will be held at KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 23 Melville Street, Dundas on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place in Cambridge, ON. Berkes, Cynthia Lynn (nee Dillane) – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy at St. Peter’s on Monday, September 24, 2018 in her 58th year. Loving daughter of Ed (and the late Ann) and step-mom Carol. Devoted mother to Noelle. Cherished sister to Sean, Tyler (Jenn) and Blake (Rachel). She will be fondly remembered and missed by godmother Wendy and friend Al, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Thank you to her many devoted and long time friends for their support, compassion and visits during Cindy’s journey. Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa on Monday, September 24, 2018, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late John Sampson (1983) and the late Larry Kilgour (2003). Loving mother of the late Doug (Anna), Dan (Janice), Scott (Joanne) and Laura Ginther (Kent), and step-mother to Patricia Kadechuk (late Glen), Judy Colantino (Peter) and Nancy Kilgour (Keith Pacey). Loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Marie will be sadly missed by her dear friends Dolly and Shirley. A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Cattel Family Centre (beside Turner Family Funeral Home), 53 Main Street, Dundas. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntington’s Society, the Good Shepherd Centre or the Down Syndrome Society would be appreciated. Hambly, Margaret (nee Jones) – Maggie passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018, at the age of 81, after a short and unexpected diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. Beloved wife of the late Don Hambly (1995) and loving Mum to Victoria (Harry Coffie) and Barry (Hanri Jobert). Donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Trillium Gift of Life Network would be greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place.
