July 29, 1930 – November 4, 2015

After a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, our dear husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 4th 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital, at the age of 85. Nick was born in Hilversum, Holland, where he grew up during the second World War. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 25, where he married his “lieve schat” Dia, his faithful companion for 59 years. Nick was well-known for his determination and sheer hard work, building up a successful meat packing business, and later running  a strawberry and raspberry farm. He was a man of great integrity and faithfulness, and he retained his warm sense of humor to the end of his life. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Dia (nee Brokking) and his four daughters: Connie (Jeljer), Glenda (Jerry), Jennifer and Christine (Jan).  He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Nicholas (Naomi), Lucas (Sandra), Maria and Deirdre in Canada, and Rachel (Wes), Daphne, David and Jody, all in Holland.  Visitation will be held at the Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas on Monday, November 9th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Tuesday November 10th 10:30 am to 11:00 am with the  funeral service following at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Salvation Army, an organization Nick held in high regard, would be appreciated.
