September 21, 1934 – March 23, 2019

Peacefully at home on March 23, 2019 with her daughter Vicky, her granddaughter Maria and the dog Hamish by her side listening to Nat King Cole. Mum was a tenacious Scottish woman, an accountant, a devoted wife to the late Edward Eldridge, a loving supportive mother, a proud granmama; a woman of faith. She embodied strength in weakness, faith in times of doubt, humour in chaos, and instructed that there is always time to bake shortbread and empire cookies for beloved friends. Maria and I are most grateful for the kindness from the staff at LHIN for the compassionate care from the staff at St. Elizabeth’s, the palliative care nurses from St. Joseph’s and Dr. Jim McMillan who graced our home these past weeks. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in memory of Alison to ARISE Ministry, a mission of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, 101 Wilson Avenue, North York, ON, M5M 2Z9. A funeral service will take place at West Flamboro Presbyterian Church, 262 Middletown Rd, Flamborough, ON, on Tuesday March 26, at 12:00 noon.

Dear Viky and maria and Hamish,
I remember Alison as a friend at West Flamborough, always recognizing me, even with her eye problems. She was a friend to all of us. Going on without her will be a challenge, I know you will face and do well. Love and condolences to you including Hamish, her loving friend.

    Dear Vicky & Maria,
We’re so saddened to hear of your Mum/Granmama’s passing. Alison was a dear and wonderful lifelong friend who was more like family to us. We loved to reminisce about growing up in Loanhead. She was loyal, caring, funny and always the best of company. We enjoyed many visits with her and yourselves in both Scotland and Canada. We will be forever grateful for the special camaraderie we shared. May she rest in peace. May you both find strength and comfort in each other.

Alison will be warmly remembered by the Women’s Missionary Society at Thornhill Presbyterian Church for the friendly welcome she gave others, her amazing smile in all circumstances and always the cookies. She served as the WMS President at Thornhill from 1888 – 1990 and we all benefitted from her excellent leadership. Memories are a blessing reminding us that love lives on. Thinking of you and Maria at this sad time.

    Dear Vicky,
I am so saddened to hear of your Mum’s death. I just want you to know we will be thinking of you as you go through this tough, sad time. I’ll never forget how Alison loved to help you at the Session’s Christmas meetings by making her Tourti√®re. She was a gracious lady, and her laugh and giggles will linger in my memory for a long time. I’m sorry we won’t be able to make the service tomorrow as we are still down south….but please know we are there in spirit. May God Bless you and Maria with peace and good memories in the times following this sad chapter of your life.
    Hugs, Janet and Dane Brooks
